Merlin is the titular main protagonist of Hallmark's 1998 miniseries of the same name and the deuteragonist of it's 2006 sequel, Merlin's Apprentice.

Role in the miniseries[]

Merlin was born shortly after being created by Queen Mab, who hoped that he would one day use his magic and bring people back from Christianity back to the old religion. Throughout most of his life, Merlin was raised by the old sorceress Ambrosia (affectionately called "Auntie A" by Merlin as he grew older). One day, a teenaged Merlin meets the lady Nimue, where he warns her to take one path and to stay with her company. Though the two exchange names and Merlin kisses her, which Nimue seems to enjoy. However, in the face of her friends, she apparently coldly rebuffs Merlin, who foresees he will see her again. This proves true when he saves her from falling in quicksand later that day by commanding a branch to grow so Nimue can grab on. After saving her from falling into quicksand, Merlin pulls Nimue up and she gives him another kiss.
