Melman is one of the two tritagonists of Madagascar. He is one of the two tritagonists of Madagascar, one of the two tetartagonists of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and one of the two tritagonists Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (alongside Gloria all three times.) Melman is sightly paranoid and believes he is always sick while living in New York. He is an African giraffe and best friends with Marty, Gloria, and Alex. in the second film, Melman admits that he has feelings for gloria who reciprocated them at the end of the film when Melman told her it was Gloria who kept him going and not the medications.
He is voiced by David Schwimmer.

In this film, Melman is revealed to have a major crush on Gloria, and it has stemmed since childhood. Back where the previous film left off, Melman and his friends leave Madagascar and head towards New York. However, their plan crash lands with Skipper and Kowalski neglect to see that the fuel has run out. Just as the plan is crashing, Melman reveals that he has always been in love with Gloria, only to find that she has been sleeping the whole time.
