Mrs. Mary Brown is one of the main characters of Paddington and is the deuteragonist of the 2014 film adaptation and its 2017 sequel.

She is the wife of Henry Brown, the mother of Judy and Jonathan Brown, and the adoptive mother of Paddington.

Personality[]

Mary loves her family, and was the first to open her heart to Paddington. She and her husband, Henry, love each other very much and they are both protective of all three of their children.  Mary and Jonathan are initially the only ones in the family who take a looking to Paddington. According to her husband, Mary has a good and open heart and sees that her nature was what made her see how special Paddington was. 

Mary is quite adventurous, wishing to have one when she was stuck at home. She has a an open mind to do anything, even letting her wild imagination get outside of her. Mary's wild imagination is her strong suit, as in the sequel, she used this skill to successfully deduce who really stole the pop-up book Paddington wanted. 

Abilities[]

Mary is an excellent swimmer, having been able to swim in the deep parts of a lake when she rescued the Paddington and being able to swim the English channel from England to France. She also has detective skills, as she was able to easily tell that Phoenix Buchanan was the true thief in the sequel.  Mary is also a talented drawer, having drawn several graphic novels and was able to draw a picture of Phoenix in extreme detail.

Paddington reveals in a letter to his aunt that by the sequel, Mary has been cooped up in her house all summer drawing adventure stories and hopes have one of her own. It is revealed she has been training to swim so she can swim the English channel from it went to France and then back again.
