Marietta Edgecombe is a supporting antagonist of the 2007 novel, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She is a former member of Dumbledore's Army and the former best friend of Cho Chang
Background[]
Physical appearance[]
Marietta was described as having curly, reddish-blonde hair. After she was struck with the parchment jinx for betraying the D.A., she bore pimples spelling "SNEAK" across her face. During this time, Marietta covered them up first with a balaclava and then thick makeup, the latter of which did not completely hide them. They faded with time, but Marietta was left with a few scars.
Magical skills and abilities[]
- Non-verbal magic: During the first D.A. meeting, when her sleeve caught on fire from an incorrectly done Disarming Charm by Cho Chang, Marietta put out the flames without saying an incantation. This was highly advanced, N.E.W.T.-level magic. This means that she was a very accomplished witch.
- Charms: When Marietta's sleeve caught on fire she used either the Water-Making Spell or the Extinguishing spell to put it out, showing she had some skill in charm-work. She was capable of producing a non-corporeal Patronus Charm.
- Defence Against the Dark Arts: Although an unenthusiastic member of the D.A., Marietta would have learnt many defensive and offensive spells from Harry's teaching (assuming she did not neglect to pay attention and put in the effort).
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix[]
During her fifth school year, Marietta was forced to attend Dumbledore's Army meetings with her best friend, Cho Chang. However, when she feared that her mother's job could be threatened if they were ever found out, Marietta betrayed Dumbledore's army and as a result, zits appeared on her forehead, for Hermione cursed the sign up sheet with a jinx that would infect the traitor with zits.
A Memory Charm was later placed on her by Kingsley Shacklebolt to prevent her from fully incriminating her fellow D.A. members.
