Marie-Jeanne Argent (née Valet) is one of the overarching protagonists (alongside Talia Hale )of the second half of Teen Wolf. She was a skilled huntress, the second wife of Henri Argent, and the ancestress of the Argent family, such as Chris and Allison Argent. She was famous for being the woman who killed the Beast of Geuvadon, who was her brother, Sebastien Valet. She is the protagonist of the tale "The Maid of Gévaudan".

Story[]

Marie-Jeanne was the younger sister of Sebastien Valet. She lived in France during the 1760s and became a skilled huntress who did not believe in the supernatural. Marie-Jeanne often visited a local tavern, where she befriended the owner, Rene. He saw her reading a letter from her brother, who was fighting during the Seven Years' War in North America. Rene assured Marie-Jeanne that one day, Sebastien would return. From the next table over, Marie-Jeanne overheard guests, including the Magistrate, Monsieur Tolbert. They were discussing La Bête; a dangerous beast began killing and terrorizing the entire countryside with many conflicting sources of what it looked like. Tolbert told the patrons at the end that until the king sent his best men to hunt the creature, it was up to the villagers to create their own. At that moment, Sebastien had returned from his war with his companion, Marcel, claiming his sister was the best huntress in the village. Marie-Jeanne was happily reunited with him and embraced Sebastien. Once their tearful reunion was over, Tolbert approached Marie-Jeanne and asked if she was willing to lead their hunting party, to which she laughed and replied that she hunted animals, not rumors.

However, after a young man, Henri Argent, came into the tavern with the body of a young boy in his arms, Henri explained that Emile was attacked and that his last words were "La Bête." Even though she did not believe in the supernatural, Marie-Jeanne agreed to lead a hunting party after the Beast. Unfortunately, everyone but Marie-Jeanne survived. When she saw the creature, she shot at it with an arrow, only to be badly scratched on her thigh by its claws. Marie-Jeanne fled, but she was saved by Henri, who quickly threw a jar full of Mountain Ash in a line around them. Shocked to learn from Henri that the "Beast" was a werewolf and wanting to kill the werewolf, Henri taught her how. They laced alcoholic drinks with mistletoe, which was what all werewolves were allergic to. She, at first, believed Marcel was the Demon Wolf after he told her to look in the cellar, where Marie-Jeanne found a slaughter of men, women, and children. However, her theory of Marcel being the demon wolf was proven wrong when she noticed the wound, she inflicted on him had not yet healed. Marie-Jeanne realized that Marcel couldn't be the Beast but was rather just covering for him.

Unfortunately, while Marie-Jeanne was away, Sebastien had violently reacted to the mistletoe laced wine. Upon seeing his blue werewolf eyes, Marie-Jeanne angrily confronted Sebastien, who informed her he had become a werewolf ever since he drank rainwater out of a wolf's paw print in the woods. Marie-Jeanne threatened to expose him to the entire tavern but refrained upon doing so when Sebastien threatened to wipe out everyone in it.

Marie and Henri forge

Both Marie and Henri forge a weapon capable of killing a demonic werewolf.

Not letting her brother intimidate her into silence, Marie-Jeanne quickly ran to Henry's cabin, where she revealed her discovery and how she needed his help to kill her brother before he hurt any more innocents, He suggested that they needed something that would use the Beast's size and weight, deciding on a pike. Valet and Argent created a tip mixed with wolfsbane and mountain Ash, which was made into the shape of a fleur-de-lis. After it cooled, Marie-Jeanne merged the sphere in her own blood under the light of a full moon

Marie Jeanne kills sebastien

After three years of hunting her brother, Marie successfully killed him.

For 3 years, Maria hunted down her brother and managed to track him down on June 19, 1767 in the mountains. She used the pike to kill Sebastien finally. Even though her brother gloated that even though he will die, he will die in infamy, as his name would forever be remembered and feared. However, Marie-Jeanne announced her plan of "damnatio memoriae" (erasing his name from history, so people will forevermore just remember him as 'The Beast').

Marie and Henri 5x18

After killing the Beast to save her village, Marie-Jeanne and her village erased Sebastien from the records, so he would forever more be remembered as "the Beast of. She ended up falling in love with Henri, and they married, where she took his last name to disconnect herself from the Beast that terrorized France. They married and became the ancestors of a long line of supernatural hunters.

Legacy[]

Allison Battlefield

Allison Argent, Marie's descendant who strongly resembles her

At some point after her death, Marie's brother had been forgotten and the family of werewolf hunters descended from Henri and Marie-Jeanne's line fought the supernatural. Both Allison and Marie-Jeanne bared a strong resemblance with each other in both personality and abilities.

Additionally, when though she killed the Beast, Marie's husband, Henri was credited for doing it, likely to further disconnect his wife from Sebastien and because of damnatio memoriae. They developed a Hunter code was issued by Henri and Marie Jeanne, which decreed that hunters do not go after young werewolves and only those who had spilled innocent blood. However, some of Marie and Henri's descendants such as Gerard Argent and Kate Argent were rogue and ruthless hunters, who killed for pleasure very similar to Sebastien.

Marie-Jeanne was first mentioned, albeit vaguely, by Chris Argent during a conversation with his father Gerard in "The Sword and the Spirit." Also, similar to their descendants Chris, both Marie-Jeanne and Chris were hunters who defended innocent lives and never liked it when their family or friends threatened.

When Marie-Jeanne's brother was resurrected in 2013, Scott McCall, her descendant Allison's lover, used the same spear Marie-Jeanne used to kill her brother. However, during the confrontation with the Beast, Sebastien proceeded to kill the young werewolf when he was suddenly flooded with the memory of Allison, where Sebastien mistook the girl in Scott's dream for Marie-Jeanne.

After Scott and his friends killed the for good, both Lydia and Stiles surmised that Marie-Jeanne must have looked just like Allison. Because of the memories of Allison, she had spiritually saved Scott's life.

Trivia[]

  • According to Allison in the first season, Henri was the one who was given credit for killing the Beast, not Marie-Jeanne.
