Mako is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Tenzin) of the animated series The Legend of Korra. He is also a major protagonist in the comic book series, specifically as the main protagonist of the standalone graphic novel, Mystery of Penquan Island (2024)
He is a firebender from a multicultural family who grew up on the streets of Republic City as an orphan with his younger brother, Bolin. He is also the ex-boyfriend of Korra and Asami Sato, who ironically ended up together.

Mako is a firebender from a multicultural family who grew up on the streets of Republic City as an orphan with his younger brother, Bolin. As such, Mako is accepting of races and cultures, as seen with his relationship with Korra, who was a girl from the Southern Water Tribe.
He is also willing to do whatever is necessary to protect his family and friends, even if it resorts to violence. Bickering with some of the team Avatar members he will not stand idly by when they are threatened. He's extremely protective of his younger brother because they have been living on the streets their whole lives and spending most of their time doing what it takes to survive in the city. He's also very moral and has a sense of justice, especially since he joined the Metalbending Police Task Force and later escalated to detective. However his morals were so high that he started putting his job before his relationship with Korra. He also rightfully called out Bolin for siding with Kuvira because Mako knew the kind of person Kuvira was and that she was up to no good. Mako eventually realized his mistake and the two mutually broke up. He also hated being the bodyguard of Prince Wu, and prefer to go back to his detective duties. However, Mako and Wu formed a genuine friendship, enough for Wu to consider Mako one of his closest friends.
Physical Appearance[]
Mako is a young man with a long shaped oval face, with black hair, golden eyes and fair skin. In terms of appearance and personality, Mako looks just like his late mother Naoki. Like his brother, Mako was of Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation heritage.
He wore a similar outfit just like his brother, however, he bore fire nation colors. His tunic-shirt is black-gray with dark red trimmings instead of being green. He also wears a white tank underneath his longsleeved shirt. Like Korra, he also wears fingerless gloves. He also wore his father's red necktie every day for most of his life before giving it back to his grandmother Yin so she would have something to remember her son by. When he was off duty, he simply wore his white tank top and pants.
