Mai is a minor character in the 2024 adaptation of Avatar The Last Airbender. She is a non-bender, one of the best friends of princess Azula and Ty Lee and the childhood friend and crush of Prince Zuko.
When Mai sees Azula taking things too far with training, she often stops her.
In the fifth episode of the first season, she quickly stops Azula when Mai sees her fire turning blue.
Adaptation Early Appearance: In the original show Mai doesn't appear until season 2. On Netflix she appears in the first season.
In the cartoon series, not only was Mai one of Azula and Tylee's best friends, she was also Prince Zuko's girlfriend who she had a crush on since they were children. In the third and final season, both Ty Lee and Mai end up betraying Azula.
Technically speaking maybe if Mai and Ty were more open with Azula, then maybe they could have turned her into a slightly better person instead of feeding her ego. It's why Azula never grows as a person. However they are both afraid of her to speak out.
