| “ | I've meditated at length. I've concluded how we respond to a crisis—the one we're in now or any other—is far less important than responding to it together. Even with the Force to guide us, we will still make mistakes. We still are mortal. | „ |

| “ | I don't propose that we place ourselves in seclusion and pass our days meditating on the Force—though that might be the path for some of us. But I do advocate attuning ourselves to the longer view, and reaching out to others who seek to serve the Force. | „ |

During the Dark Heir story arc, Luke briefly fell to the dark side of the Force, under a newly resurrected Palpatine's influence but was ultimately redeemed for the love of his sister. Shortly after this, his sister gave birth to her first child, who she named Anakin after their late father. Palpatine attempted to resurrect himself in Anakin's body. Early life[]
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith[]
Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker, Luke's biological parents married in secret
Shortly before the end of the Clone Wars, Padme announced her pregnancy to her husband, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, who felt overjoyed they would be parents. However, Anakin started having nightmares of Padmé dying in childbirth and Obi-Wan comforting her. In the middle of the night, Anakin told Padmé what he dreamed about. He also compared his vision concerning his mother's death and feared losing Padmé. She asked about the fate of the baby but Anakin is unsure if their child survived.
Palpatine was aware of these visions that plagued Anakin. He revealed his identity as a Sith Lord to Skywalker. Anakin revealed Palpatine's identity as a Sith Lord to the Council. After Anakin inadvertently assisted Sidious in stopping Mace Windu, Palpatine promised him with power that would save Padmé and the baby if Anakin became his new apprentice.
Desperate to save his family, Anakin was seduced by Sidious to finally submitting to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader. Afterwards, Obi-Wan seeks out Padmé to discover Vader's whereabouts and reveals his treachery. Padmé travels to Mustafar—unaware that Obi-Wan has stowed aboard her ship—and pleads with Vader to abandon the dark side. When Obi-Wan emerges, Vader believes Padmé has betrayed him and force-chokes her into unconsciousness. The two engage in a lightsaber duel, which ends with Obi-Wan severing Vader's left arm and both legs. Vader is then burned alive by a nearby lava flow as Obi-Wan retrieves Vader's lightsaber and leaves him for dead.
Obi-Wan took a weakened Padmé to the asteroid, Polis Massa, where she went into labor. However the medical droids revealed that they were losing her because she lost the will to live since her husband fell in childbirth. They also revealed that Padmé was carrying twins.
At that moment, Padmé gives birth to twins, whom she names Luke and Leia. She dies soon after, still believing there is good in Anakin.
Yoda, Bail Organa, and Obi-Wan Kenobi made the decision to protect the Skywalker children from their father and Sidious. While Leia was adopted by Bail and taken to Alderaan, Obi-Wan entrusted Luke to Anakin's step-brother, Owen, and his newly married wife, Beru Whitesun, on Tatooine. The couple accepted their nephew and raised him as if he were their own.
Obi-Wan kept to himself on Tatooine, residing near the boy, intending to keep a watchful eye on Skywalker as he grew. Kenobi observed him every day while attempting to steer clear of the boy's guardians. Nevertheless, Owen discovered Kenobi and instructed him to keep his distance from Luke, fearing that his nephew might align with his father on the dark side. Kenobi complied with his request and chose to monitor Luke whenever feasible.

Realizing Palpatine had lied to him, Vader's love for his family reignited as he became determined to not only protect Luke from the Emperor but turn him to the dark side. Though luke had trouble coming to terms with this relevation, he chose to accept it and try to bring his father back to the good side, a belief Luke inherited from his mother. Trivia[]
- Luke once gave Mara his father's lightsaber. As Anakin, Qui-Gon Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka believed that a lightsaber is their lives. It also symbolizes that Mara Jade is Luke's life, or rather, his soulmate, because he never remarried after her death at the hands of Darth Caedus.
- Luke Skywalker was originally going to be a female character. He went through various stages; in some stories, he would also be a sixty-five year old General rather than youth before it was decided he would be a young man. His name was also originally going to be named Starkiller, as he introduces himself as "Luke Starkiller" when he comes to rescue Leia in the original cut. However, they changed his last name to Skywalker, so the scene had to be reshot.
- According to George Lucas, Luke has the same potential powers that his father had. Luke represents this, and symbolizes what Anakin could have become.
- Luke's name is derived from the Latin word, Luc meaning "light". This is fitting enough, given that Luke possesses a strong connection to the light side of the Force.
- In addition to Star Wars, Luke appeared in The Star Wars Holiday Special and The Muppet Show. For the latter, Star Wars and The Muppet Show would both come under Disney's ownership in 1990 and 2013 respectively.
- In Star Wars Infinities: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke dies of hypothermia in the harsh cold tundra of Hoth. Leia trains to be a Jedi instead.
