Lucius Malfoy is an antagonist/anti-hero in the Harry Potter book and film series. He is the father of Draco Malfoy and the husband of Narcissa Malfoy.
At some point, Lucius was sorted into Slytherin and after school, married Narcissa Malfoy out of love. However, his sister-in-law, Bellatrix Lestrange married her husband only to keep the Black family tradition of marrying a pureblood wizards and witches.
During the first Wizarding War, Mr. Malfoy was one of Voldemort's most loyal followers. However, after Voldemort's downfall, Lucius pretended that he had been under the influence of the Imperius Curse. He was able to keep his job and prevented himself from going to Azkaban. In 1980, Lucius fathered a child, naming him "Draco." Though he didn't really work at the Ministry of Magic, Lucius remained on good terms with Minister Cornelius Fudge and had a heated rivalry with Arthur Weasley.

Tom Riddle's Diary: For some reason Lucius had Voldemort's diary that he had as a teenager. Unbeknownst to him the diary was in fact a horcrux, meaning it held a piece of his former master's soul. He slipped it into Ginny Weasley's cauldron in order for chaos to ensure in the school.
