The granddaughter of Trout Walker, the formerly wealthy owner of the town of Green Lake, she is now the owner of Camp Green Lake, a camp for troubled boys who have broken the law. As the mastermind of the camp, it is she who came up with the idea of directing each camper to dig a five-foot hole each day, with the narrative that it would help them "build character." In actuality, she was carrying on her family's tradition of searching for the buried treasure of notorious outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow, whom her grandfather had once been romantically attracted to, but she had rejected him.
The Warden is the most powerful person at Camp Green Lake, and although soft-spoken, she presents a commanding and imposing presence; her trademark catchphrase, "excuse me?" is enough to make the campers and staff do whatever she says. She hires Marion Seville, who assumes the alias Mr. Sir, to be the camp's overseer and chief enforcer; as well as individual counselors for each tent at the camp, including Dr. Pendanski.
The Warden is feared throughout the camp, and the number one rule at Camp Green Lake is not to upset her. The boys claim she has hidden microphones and cameras throughout the camp and in all of its facilities. When Armpit hands her a broken TV dial and claims he found it while digging, Mr. Sir denies him of showers for a week. Later, when Stanley Yelnats IV covers for Magnet, who had stolen Mr. Sir's sunflower seed sack out of the water truck, Warden Walker does not want to be bothered, and scratches Mr. Sir across the face after having just applied her rattlesnake-venom nail polish.
When Hector Zeroni runs away from camp, The Warden orders that his file be erased, as he was last known to be homeless and without any known relatives. Later, when Stanley also runs away to find Zero, after crashing the water truck into a hole, The Warden and Mr. Sir know that his disappearance will not go unnoticed by the outside world, since he does have family. She decides to call in a search party if he has not returned in three weeks.
When Stanley's lawyer, the Texas Attorney General, and two Texas Rangers arrive at camp, The Warden is arrested along with Mr. Sir (who was violating his parole by carrying a gun) and Dr. Pendanski for child labor/abuse, false imprisonment, and misplacing state files.
