Lorraine's Siblings are minor characters in the 1985 film Back to the Future. They are the siblings of Lorraine Baines and the aunts and uncles of Marty McFly.
History[]
Back to the Future[]
Lorraine had five siblings: Milton Samuel (born 1943), Sally Flora (born 1949), Toby (born 1951), Joey (born 1954), and Ellen (born 1956).
In the 1980s, Marty's mother mentioned that Joey didn't make parole again and they would have to eat the cake themselves.
In the alternate 1955, the siblings had dinner with their future nephew, Marty, their sister, and their parents after Sam hit Marty with his car (instead of George). Stella introduced Marty to her other children and pointed out Joey. Marty noticed his uncle Joey in his crib and silently told him that he should get used to those bars because of Joey's future fate as an inmate.
After Marty gained instruction on how to get to Emmett Brown's house, he quickly left when Lorraine started giving him wanted advances, such as saying he could stay in her room and by the way she was touching him from underneath the dinner table. Marty quickly left the table and told his family that he would see them "much later." As he closed the door, the siblings looked at him in confusion along with their parents.
Siblings[]
Milton Baines[]
Milton Baines is the second eldest of the Baines family. Stella, took the cap off his head twice while Marty was eating dinner with the family, and Milton put it back on each time. He was disturbed by Marty's behavior at dinner, especially when Marty said he saw The Honeymooners on reruns. As Milton questioned what a rerun was, Marty said he'd understand what it was one day. Milton also assumed that Marty was rich when he said he owned two tvs.
Sally Baines[]
Sally Flora Baines was the third child of Sam and Stella Baines. She was born in 1949 and had dinner with her family when her nephew Marty was stranded in 1955.
Toby Baines[]
Toby Baines is the middle of Lorraine's youngest siblings. He remained silent while the guest was present.
In the non-canon, Back to the Future: Hard Time, Marty came to his uncle Toby, asking how or why Joey for arrested. Toby said Joey was a troubled kid but had no information about how his brother got arrested. After Toby accused him of having accomplices, Joey quickly left, realizing he was not wanted.
Joey Baines[]
Jailbird" Joey Baines is the second youngest of the Baines family. He is the one frequently mentioned the most, whose sentence in prison is a running gag in the film. At their family dinner in 1985, Lorraine told her children that Joey didn't make parole again, throwing the cake onto the table. They would have to eat the cuisine without him. Stella tells Marty that every time they pull Joey out of his crib, he starts crying so they leave him in his playpen all day.
In Back to the Future Part II Biff threatened to send all of Lorraine's children to jail like her brother Joey when she threatened to leave him in the altered 1985B. She gave in and stayed.
Ellen Baines[]
Ellen is the youngest of Lorraine's siblings. Ellen wasn't present at the dinner because she was not born yet. According to Biff Tannen, she currently lives in Chicago, moving there at some point before 1986.
Trivia[]
- In an early draft of Back to the Future Part II, Toby in 1967 was depicted as a young man about to turn 18.
- The idea of Marty having an Uncle Milton may have been the filmmakers' reference to the popular 1950s television star Milton Berle
- Sally was portrayed by actress Maia Brewton, who was seven years old when the scene was filmed. In 1987, she co-starred with Elisabeth Shue (Jennifer Parker of Part II and Part III) in the comedy Adventures in Babysitting (also known as A Night on the Town). She appeared on two episodes of The Wonder Years, which reunited her with her Back to the Future big brother, Jason Hervey, who portrayed Milton Baines.
