| “ | You think I was going to use my filthy Muggle father’s name forever? I, in whose veins runs the blood of Salazar Slytherin himself, through my mother’s side? I, keep the name of a foul, common Muggle, who abandoned me even before I was born, just because he found out his wife was a witch? No, Harry. I fashioned myself a new name, a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak, when I had become the greatest Philosopher in the world! | „ |
| ~ Voldemort's villainous monologue to Harry Potter |
Lord Voldemort (born Tom Marvolo Riddle) is the main antagonist of the Harry Potter main series and the overarching antagonist of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He is one of the most powerful and most dangerous wizard of his generation who seeks to destroy Harry Potter, because, according to the prophecy, this young boy is the only person capable of defeating him. However, the only way to truly defeat him is by destroying all of Voldemort's horcruxes, magical objects that contain a fracture of his own soul. Through his mother's family, he is the last descendant of the wizard Salazar Slytherin, one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is the leader of the Death Eaters, a group of wizards and witches dedicated to ridding the Wizarding World of Muggles and establishing Voldemort as its supreme ruler.
Nearly every witch or wizard dares not utter his name and refers to him instead with such monikers as "You-Know-Who", "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named", or "The Dark Lord".
In the film series, he was portrayed by Ralph Fiennes; Christian Coulson (16-year-old) in Chamber of Secrets, and both Hero Fiennes-Tiffin (11-year-old) and Frank Dillane (15-year-old) in Half-Blood Prince. In Philosopher's Stone, he was portrayed by Richard Bremmer in the flashback scene, but voiced by Ian Hart

Trivia
- Despite his blood supremacy beliefs, Voldemort was a Half-blood himself. This is what made him to after Harry instead of Neville.
- there is a theory that the Peverell brothers are an allegory to Voldemort, Harry and Snape.
- Voldemort represents Antioch Peverell, the eldest brother.
- Snape is the middle brother Cadmus because their main motivations were of love.
- Harry represents Ignotus Peverell, the youngest brother because both didn't seek power and is the only one of the three people to gain a better ending.
- Dumbledore is said to represent Death, as the Elder wand was stolen from him by Voldemort, Severus (Cadmus) were motivated by their lost loves (Lily and Cadmus' late lover) by getting something from Dumbledore (Death), in this case, Severus' loyalty to Albus and Cadmus getting the Resurrection Stone), and Harry/Ignotus treating Dumbledore/Death as an old friend.
