Long John Silver is the main antagonist turned anti-hero of the 1996 film, Muppet Treasure Island, being based on the character of the same name.

Sometime before the events of Muppet Treasure Island, Long John Silver was eight years old when his father, a First Mate, died at sea. Silver lost a leg while serving under a commander named, Hawke to a cannon. He joined the crew of Captain Flint as a Quartermaster and became obsessed with finding the treasure Flint had hid on Treasure Island. When he heard that someone had a treasure map that led to Flint's hidden treasure. He was hired by Squire Trelawney with providing him for a crew while Silver became the cook for the Hispaniola.
Throughout the film, Silver begins to form a friendship with Jim but plotted to take control of the ship. He is soon arrested for his crimes. However, while imprisoned, Silver remembers found that he still had Mr. Arrow's key in his possession. In the Dead of night, he begins to escape but is caught by Jim, who sees Long John putting Flint's treasure in a lifeboat and is about to blow the whistle to alert the crew and. As Silver points his pistol at Jim he is unable to shoot him because he cannot think of harming him, noting he is loyal, brave and true and that he didn't learn it from him. Heartbroken, Jim tells Long John to sail away and that he never wants to see him again. As John agrees and begins to sail away, he gives Jim his father's compass back. However, long John gets his comeuppance when the lifeboat that Long John took was not seaworthy and the boat starts to sink and Silver is forced to swim to Treasure Island, where the only company he has is a talking palm tree with terrible jokes.
