Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, née Bracegirdle is a character in The Lord of the Rings. She is wife of Otho Sackville-Baggins and the mother of their son, Lotho and cousin-in-law of Bilbo Baggins.
Background[]
In storyline, Lobelia was born in S.R. 1318 (TA 2918) and grew up in the hometown of Hardbottle. Her parents were Blanco Bracegirdle and Primrose Boffin and had one brother, Bruno.
Personality[]
Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is Bilbo's greedy cousin and Otho Sackville-Baggins' wife. She is descended from the Bracegirdles, being the daughter of Blanco Bracegirdle and Primrose Boffin and the sister of Bruno Bracegirdle She always desired Bag End for herself and was very angry when Bilbo named Frodo Baggins his heir. Though she finally got her wish of buying Bag End, Lobelia was a very grief stricken woman when she learned her son had been killed.
Though initially greedy and stubborn, Lobelia was fearless against Saruman's men, even using an umbrella as a weapon. She finally released all her anger of Bilbo and Frodo and gave him Bag End back as well as leaving money so Hobbits could rebuild their homes, showing that Lobelia had really changed into a different person.
Trivia[]
- In the book, Lobelia was at least thirty years younger than Bilbo. However, in the films, they appear to be the same age.
