| ~ Lloyd and Harumi about his Oni side |
Master Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon is the main protagonist of the Ninjago franchise, serving as the main protagonist of Masters of Spinjitzu and one of the two deuteragonists of the sequel, Dragons Rising (alongside Riyu).
He is the leader and the youngest member of the Ninja team, only son of Master Garmadon and Misako, the nephew of Master Wu, and the grandson of the First Spinjitzu Master.
Descending from Oni and dragons on his father's side and human on his mother's side, Lloyd is the legendary Green Ninja, the Elemental Master of Energy, a user of Destruction, the former Golden Ninja, a Conduit for the Source Dragon of Motion, and the current leader of the Ninja and the former leader of the resistance. He is also the best friend/surrogate brother of Kai and Nya, the close friend and surrogate brother of Cole, Zane, and Jay Walker, the mentor of Frak, the former mentor of Sora and Arin, and the love interest/former enemy of Harumi and the archenemy of Pythor P. Chumsworth, the Overlord and Lord Ras.
As a boy, Lloyd was abandoned by his mother at Darkley's Academy for Boys for his own protection. He wanted to live up to his father's name by being evil and released the Serpentine people from their tomb. However, this all changed once Lloyd learned he was the Green Ninja destined to save Ninjago from the forces of evil.
From Seasons 1-7, he is voiced by Jillian Michaels, who voiced Kai and Nya's mother Maya, and Shippo from Inuyasha.
As of Season 8, he is voiced by Samuel Vincent, who also voiced Edd in Ed, Edd n Eddy, Krypto in Krypto the Superdog, and Sonic the Hedgehog's singing voice in Sonic Underground.

In "A Sinister Shadow," Harumi shared her complete story about her resurrection, detailing her encounter with the Crystal King and her subsequent allegiance to him. She was also in hiding from the Ninja in the Shintarian throne room, where they were demanding the Vengestone mined by the Geckles and Munce during their visit. Additionally, she was present at the farm when the Ninja was unable to defeat Ms. Demeanor due to Nya's uncontrollable powers, revealing herself as the mysterious Vengestone buyer they had been trying to find. Lloyd (now in Gold Vengestone chains) Lloyd realizes that Harumi is the mysterious buyer of Vengestone that the Ninja have been trying to track down. Harumi reminds him that the greatest villain is often the one who escapes. Lloyd observes Harumi using Vengestone to assemble an army and questions her motives. Harumi sarcastically claims she needs enough players for her villainous volleyball team. When Lloyd asks if she's serious, she laughs and confirms she's not. Lloyd admits that Harumi can be hard to read at times.
Harumi expresses her disbelief that Lloyd ended up leading Ninjago's greatest heroes, noting his gullibility. Although Lloyd usually doesn't fall for tricks, he's feeling frustrated and confused. Harumi laughs, stating that this is just the start of Lloyd's frustrations, as her next plan involves breaking into the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Lloyd suspects she's trying to take over the monastery, but Harumi clarifies that she has no interest in it; she wants the Spinjitzu weapons stored inside. Lloyd argues that those weapons would be useless to her, but Harumi counters that true power isn't diminished just because the Ninja have lost their abilities before. She questions what he needs them for now that they lack power. Lloyd tries to stop Harumi from leaving, but she is annoyed that he keeps interrupting her dramatic exit.
Harumi waits anxiously for Lloyd to speak. He acknowledges that she had been manipulating him throughout the 'Season 8: The Sons of Garmadon' arc, but he confesses that his feelings for her were genuine. Harumi demands to know why he didn't come for her. Lloyd explains that after regaining his powers, he searched the ruins where she had been standing as it fell, but she was already gone by the time he arrived. Harumi insists that he didn't look hard enough. Lloyd responds that he understands she hates him, and perhaps he deserves it, but he cannot allow her to obtain the golden weapons. He frees himself from the chains using keys he pickpocketed from her and prepares to leave, apologizing to Harumi. Harumi retorts that she is the one who is sorry, as Mister F approaches. Lloyd tries to use his powers but fails due to the presence of all the Vengestone. Mr. F successfully defeated Lloyd and threatened him at gun point. Harumi addresses him, stating that with so much Vengestone present, Lloyd is powerless. There is nothing Lloyd can do to prevent the arrival of the Crystal King, and Ninjago will ultimately achieve peace — but only under the shadow of his reign.
In the Crystal Temple, Lloyd awakens trapped in a cage above a pool of lava, trying to escape using his powers. Harumi warns him not to waste his efforts, as the cage is made of Vengestone. Lloyd pleads with Harumi, suggesting she can reconsider her plans. Harumi pretends to contemplate his words until she reveals her manipulation. Despite this, Lloyd feels sympathy for her, understanding that she believes he has let her down, particularly for not saving her from a collapsing building. He urges her to channel her anger towards him, knowing she doesn't want to harm innocent people. Harumi's demeanor shifts, briefly showing her underlying morals, but her eyes flash purple, indicating her darker side. Harumi snapped that Lloyd knows nothing about her. However she knows that Lloyd has an Oni side like his father, a nature which he tries to suppress. He insists he is nothing like Garmadon. As the computer signals the approach of his friends, Lloyd warns Harumi that the ninjas will soon discover her hideout. In response, Harumi activates a button, revealing purple dots on the radar that surround the yellow dots representing the ninjas. Lloyd realizes she is arming bombs on her Crystal Spiders. Lloyd begs her not to, promising he'll do acting for her a long as she doesn't hurt them. How've, Harumi ignores Lloyd's pleas and sets off the explosion, seemingly killing Lloyd's brothers in arms.
Lloyd grows enraged at the loss of his friends, so he finally succumbed to his Oni side, accessing Destruction for the first time. He destroys his cage and goes up against Harumi, who is enticed by Lloyd finally succumbing to the Darkness. After Harumi once again points out that Lloyd is becoming just like his father, Lloyd grows angry again, enhancing his powers. However Lloyd cooked to his senses before he kills Harumi. This allows Mr. F to stun Lloyd, causing him to pass out again. Harumi, somewhat proud of Lloyd's inner darkness. welcomes back the son of Garmadon.

Personality
As a little boy, Lloyd strived to be just like his father; cold and merciless. But deep down, these were just mechanisms for Lloyd to cope with his father being banished, being abandoned by his mother at a young age and being bullied by the children at his school. Due to a sense of loneliness and his only friend at Darkley being Brad., his attempts to become the next evil overlord of Ninjago were largely stymied by his inherently good personality—Lloyd's idea of "evil" was stealing candy, pulling pranks, and overseeing Ninjago from within a tree-house fortress, with his best attempt at an evil laugh being a rather melodramatic laughter. After being betrayed by the Serpentine leader and in his uncle Wu's guidance. As the series progresses, Lloyd grows increasingly distant from Garmadon and addresses him by his name instead of "Dad" or "Father" with the whole series focused on the repairing of their relationship.
After being kidnapped by the Serpentine, being saved by Kai, spending time with the Ninjas, he eventually became close with them, especially Kai and Nya since the latter saved his life and the former grew close with him in the "Hunted" arc.
During his time as a member of the Ninjas, Lloyd became more selfless and confident. Lloyd is the wise leader of the team and is fully dedicated to the way of the ninja. He is goodhearted and at times naïve, making him an easy target of deception by his enemies.
Lloyd also serves as the sagacious leader of the team, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the principles of the ninja. His kind-hearted nature, coupled with a certain naivety, renders him susceptible to manipulation by adversaries. Among the team, Lloyd is recognized for his composed and tranquil demeanor. Despite enduring significant hardships throughout his life, he has managed to navigate these challenges with resilience, transforming his experiences into opportunities for growth as a ninja. Ultimately, he aspires to become a mentor to his own students, following in the footsteps of his uncle. In spite of his good nature, Lloyd became angry with Harumi that she used him and took advantage of him. However the two continued to have a complicated relationship, with Lloyd admitting to her that he still has feelings for her.
Lloyd experienced profound sorrow upon believing that Kai, Zane, Jay, Cole, and Wu had perished at the hands of the Colossus, resulting in tears being shed. This belief plunged him into a temporary state of grief and despondency, as he grappled with the loss of his closest friends, his uncle, and his own powers. Such losses led him to question his value to both Ninjago and the Resistance. Nevertheless, with Nya's support and the aspiration of reuniting with Zane, Cole, Kai, Jay, and Wu, Lloyd has seemingly managed to transcend this uncertainty. Additionally, the resurgence of Skylor's powers instilled in Lloyd a renewed sense of hope regarding the potential return of his own abilities, which is a prospect he eagerly anticipates.
His relationship with his father was extremely difficult for him too especially since Garmadon was brought back to life, with Lloyd even referring to his dad as "Garmadon" or "Father" instead of "Dad" . In spite of their difficult relationship, they had some level of care with each other, as Lord Garmadon was immediately concerned for Lloyd being injured when the Destiny's Bother crash landed and stayed by his side even when Lloyd refused his help. In "Roots," Lloyd was heartbroken over his father's "death" yet again, which triggered his Oni form for a short while.
Appearance
Lloyd is a young man with blonde hair, yellow skin and green eyes. His age is apparently in his mid to late teens in the first series. However, his age is never truly disclosed but he is around ten years old in Season 1 and the Traveler's Tea aged him up to fourteen in the eyes of Jillian Michaels. He is approximately in his mid to late 20s in the sequel series or at least a few years older than Arin and Sora. There is a notable resemblance between Lloyd, his father and paternal uncle. However Garmadon had brown hair while Wu had blonde hair, implying that Lloyd inherited various traits from Wu more than his father. Additionally, despite being a human born with Oni and Dragon Blood, Lloyd seems to lack any physical traits of his ancestral relatives, making him mostly human. However like his father, Lloyd has an Oni form but instead of being black, his Oni form is a golden skin.
Before the time jump in between Season 7 and 8, Lloyd's hair was shorter and his eyes were initially black. After the release of The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Lloyd's appearance changed drastically to look like his movie counterpart. His blonde hair is slightly longer, with most of his hair parted to the right. His eyes are green instead of black, only reverting to black when Lloyd loses his power. Whenever Lloyd uses Destruction, his eyes turn purple. As the conduit, Lloyd's eyes turn white and his entire body glows bright green.
Most of Lloyd's costume designs are often green or black. In the first stage of the series, Lloyd dominantly wore black to signify his desperation to become like Garmadon. However after becoming his own person, Lloyd often wore shades of green, ranging from dark to line green and occasionally having a signature look with gold or yellow, as he has the color when he's the Golden Ninja and in his Crystalized armor.

Description
Rise of the Snakes
Sugar-high, sinister, spirited.
As the only son of Lord Garmadon and future dark ruler, Lloyd has some big shoes to fill. It's not easy being bad, and he works tirelessly to become the super villain he is destined to be.
Lloyd ran away from the Boarding School for Bad Boys (Or maybe he was, in fact, kicked out because lacked the morale and ambition to become the next great villain master mind of tomorrow?), and he searches high and especially low for henchmen who will help him live up to his reputation and his dad's expectations. But sometimes even the toughest bad guy's only option is to retreeeeaaaat!
Rebooted
Lloyd Garmadon is happy that his father is free of the Overlord’s influence.
But after so many years apart, it is a lot of work getting used to being father and son again.
On top of that, Lloyd’s gold ninja power has made him a target of the Digital Overlord and a potential danger to the world.
Lloyd sometimes misses being just a normal boy, but when you’re the golden ninja, it’s hard to just go out and play catch with Dad (you wind up throwing the ball straight through tree trunks).

- Trains Arin and Sora as ninja

Trivia
- Lloyd's the first protagonist to be the child of a villain, alongside Skylor Chen, Vania and Sora. Only Skylor and Lloyd were antagonists before being redeemed.
- Lloyd's estimated to have aged to 14 but still physically in his 20s by the Great Merge.
- The fates of Lloyd's parents and Harumi remain largely unknown for the most part.
- It's hinted by Chris "Doc" Wyatt that most of the original characters were reassigned by the Administration.
- He also confirmed that Harumi and Akita, Lloyd's love interests in the original series, were still alive
- The begininngs of Lloyd's story in the original series and the sequel are fairly similar.
- In the beginning of Ninjago, Lloyd strived to be just like his father, before finding his own path. In the sequel series, he ironically strives to be like Uncle Wu, but once Lloyd gets the hang of being a mentor, and learning his uncle was the cause of the Merge, made him rethink if he could live out to the legacy.
- Lloyd possesses Dragon and Oni blood like his father, paternal grandfather and uncle.
- It is unknown if he can live longer than the other characters due to his oni blood. According to Mystake, it's the reason Garmadon and Wu could live for so long. It's unknown if this applies to Lloyd as well.
- Lloyd is the first conduit in centuries since the First Age.
- His soul being green may be a reference to when Garmadon and Nya told Lloyd that the Gi doesn't define Lloyd as the Green Ninja but rather his heart.
- Lloyd and Garmadon's relationship mirrors Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader's relationship in Star Wars. Likewise, he has a close mentorship with his uncle Wu that resembles Luke and Obi-Wan.
- His grandfather, the First Spinjitzu Master, shared Lloyd's powers of Energy and was a conduit of sorts like him
- Lloyd has died three times in the series, but was shortly resurrected afterwards:
- In Skybound, he was absorbed into the Djinn Blade, but the events of the season were undone with Jay's final wish.
- In March of the Oni, he seemingly died when the Ninja and Garmadon created the Tornado of Creation, but he was revived by the First Spinjitzu Master
- In Dragons Rising: Season 3, Lloyd's soul was absorbed by Thunderfang, but he was restored once Arin defeated Thunderfang using the Elixer from the Well that Morro showed him.
- Lloyd still resents Morro for taking over his body, as he expressed that the current Elemental Master of Wind, Euphrasia is a step-up.
- Lloyd's Elemental power will be explored in Season 4, hinting he may be the focus character of that season.
- Wyldfyre, Morro, and Lloyd are the only Elemental Masters to have been seen using their elements when they were still children.
