Philip Watson[]
Mary Jane's father married to her mother Madeline since college. He was a college level professor but could never publish a successful work of art and kept jumping jobs looking for inspiration. Angry, he took his disappointment out on his wife and daughters, verbally abusing them. After he slapped Gayle for the cost of her dance lessons, Madeline finally could not handle it anymore and later divorced him, disappearing with Mary Jane and Gayle. Years later, Philip reconnected with Gayle and hired her to steal a manuscript Philip wanted. However, she was caught and later arrested and Philip sent Mary Jane to follow through. She ended up successfully stole the manuscript this time, where Philip told his daughter the role he played in Gayle's arrest; however a police detective overheard and Philip was arrested instead. Later Philip and Mary Jane reconciled when she saw a picture of her mother on Philip's desk, asking him why he had it. After revealing his regrets of abandoning his family and how he always loved Maddie, Mary Jane decided to give her father another chance.
Gayle Watson[]
The sister of Mary Jane and daughter of Philip and Madeline. As a child, her father slapped her over the costs of her dancing lessons, causing Madeline to file for a divorce and take her children with her. Eventually, Gayle gave up her dancing career and married her high school boyfriend, having two children with him: Tommy and Kevin. however, she was left a single mother when Timothy abandoned his family before his second son was born. Mary Jane had a strained relationship with Gayle after to leaving to pursue her dreams after their mother succumbed to her illnesses. She later reconnected with her sister. When Gayle stole a manuscript Philip wanted. However, she was caught and later arrested and Mary Jane ended up successfully stole the manuscript this time, where Philip told his daughter the role he played in Gayle's arrest; however a police detective overheard and Philip was arrested instead.
She is absent from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film series.
Madeline Watson[]
Mary Jane's mother and the ex-wife of Philip Watson. They also have an older daughter, Gayle. Madeline had to put up with her husband's abusiveness due to his unsuccessful career of being a writer. After he slapped Gayle, it was the final straw for Madeline, so she divorced him, taking their daughters with her. Unfortunately, Madeline succumbed to a terrible illness.
Anna May Watson[]
Philip's sister and Mary Jane's aunt. She is May Parker's best friend and next door neighbor. Often enough, the two women join forces and set up a date between Mary Jane and Peter. When aunt May is absent, Anna acts as Peter's mother figure as well
Timothy Byrnes[]
Gayle's ex-husband and Mary Jane's ex-brother-in-law. He fathered Tommy and Kevin but abandoned his family before Kevin was born.
Tommy Byrnes[]
Gayle's son, Kevin's brother, and Mary Jane's nephew. His father abandoned him, his brother and mother before Kevin was born.
MJ's nephew was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz and he first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #258 (July, 1984).
Kevin Byrnes[]
Tommy Byrnes' brother and Gayle's son and Mary Jane's nephew. His father abandoned him, his brother and mother before he was born.
