Lin Beifong is one of the supporting characters of the TV show The Legend of Korra. She is the Chief of Police for Republic City's Police Department. Lin is the daughter of Toph Beifong, one of the central characters for the previous series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Background[]
Lin would be born twenty years after Avatar Aang brought peace to the land to Toph Beifong. Both Lin and her half-sister were born as Earthbenders, having inherited the ability from their mother. However, Lin grew up frustrated with her mother for never sharing who their father was. Unlike their mother's childhood, Lin and Suyin were given more freedom. However, while Lin tried being the model daughter for Toph by training as a police officer, her sister Suyin fell into the wrong crowd due to their shared jealousy of each other. During one of the robberies that Lin was assignd, her half-sister became the getaway driver. Lin tried to subdue Suyin, only for the latter to accidentally injur her older sister. Angered, Lin arrested Suyin but Toph, head of the police burned Suyin's record. As a result, Toph sent Suyin to live with her grandparents. She shortly afterwards retired as an act of contrition for having to cover-up criminal activities for her daughter and appointed Lin as her replacement. As a result, Linblamed her younger sister for Toph's retirement. The sisters would not speak to each other for thirty years when Suyin got her life back on track and married with four children.
