The Large Shadow Wing, also known as the Large Shadow or the Alpha Shadow, is the main antagonist of the Dragons: Race to the Edge episode, The Longest Day.

Official Description[]

This large, sturdy Dragon acts as a protector for its smaller cousins. Watch out for bombardment when they form a pack under its wings!
Its booming roar not only disorients victims, but also serves as a call to its kin. Small Shadows flock under its great wings, firing explosive lava in unison.

History[]

Race to the Edge[]

A small Shadow Wing first appears in distress when the Hunters are loading up for the day  when they hear the dragon screeching I'm paying As the hunters approach it they apparently try to capture it, only to be attacked by a pack of Shadow Wings. It is assumed that the Small Shadow Wings corralled all the hunters in one spot and they were all killed by the large Titan Wing.

Many days later, a self-deprived Hiccup and Toothless come to the island where they find the same Small Shadow Wing in distress. However, the dragon and its pack soon attacks Hiccup and Toothless. They corral the two into the same spot where the Hunters were lured. As Hiccup and Toothless are led further into the island, they come across more Dragon Hunting equipment and realize that the hunters had become the hunters. The two take to the sky when Hiccup spots an opening when the hostile dragons confront the two before diving into the Forest. Though Hiccup is confused at first, the Large Shadow Wing emerges, with the smaller ones on his wing tips. As he lets out a deafening roar, the smaller Shadow Wings are signaled and land on the tips of the dragon's wings. As the big and small dragons fire at Hiccup and Toothless, the duo is shot out of the air and crash land in the island. They run to a now abandoned Dragon Hunter observation post, where the Hunters were keeping an eye on Berk but ran away as soon as the dragons became overwhelmingly unhandled.

Hiccup decided to name them Shadow Wing because the smaller ones Shadow them to the larger one.

As part of his plan, Hiccup drinks water near a lake, when the small Shadow Wings think Hiccup is alone. However, the two Shadow Wings are trapped in a left over Dragon hunter net. They chase Hiccup to the observation post, where Toothless traps them by blasting the rocks on the wall, sealing the dragons inside. The Large Shadow Wing and the remaining four Small Shadow Wings confront Hiccup, who orders Toothless to shoot down the four remaining four Small Shadows. While Toothless shot two of the Shadow Wings, the Large Shadow Wing came closer, whacking Toothless with his tail.  The remaining two Small Shadow Wings attach themselves to Toothless,. As Hiccup has little time to come up with a new plan as the Large Shadow Wing approaches, Toothless suddenly dives down towards the lake, does a barrel shot that knocks the two Shadow Wings off. Toothlesss then shoots at the lake, creating a thick fog. He then uses his echolocation to dive right back up into the sky. As the fog is too much for the Shadow Wing to handle,  it crashlands into the lake because it lacked Toothless' echolocation.

Appearance[]

The Large Shadow Wing is a large green dragon with wide jaws, stocky body, and large wings akin to that of a bomber plane. Its legs are also quite stocky, and it has spaced-out triangular spines that run along its back. The Large Shadow Wing's head also slightly resembles a mix between a whale's and a snapping turtle's.

A Titan Wing, the Large Shadow is dark green with red spots all over the body. Additional tail fins grow on its tail, several spikes grow on its head and the wings develop a small claw. It is also larger in size.
