- “Angel Island. A land of miracles. Of mysteries. My home. I am its guardian. I watch over the Master Emerald and every living thing here. That is to say, all plants and animals. Any other kind of civilization is long since disappeared from the island. I do things on my own and that's just how I like it. I don't need anyone else to get by. But sometimes... I wonder how things would be if I hadn't been given this responsibility. Why was I chosen for this duty? Perhaps it's karma...”
- ―Knuckles the Echidna
Knuckles the Echidna is the primary tritagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
He is an Echidna who is the last surviving member of the Knuckles Clan and one of Sonic's rivals turned best friends. He is a serious warrior who is talked with protecting the all powerful Master Emerald. Initially, Knuckles was a misguided hero manipulated by Dr. Robotnik into thinking that Sonic was confronting him for Knuckles' Master Emerald. However, they later became friends upon realizing Dr. Robotnik was trying to steal it.
Outside of hanging out with Sonic and Tails, Knuckles enjoys treasure hunting. He also has a rivalry with Rouge the Bat while secretly harboring a crush for each other.
History[]
Early life[]
Born and raised on Angel Island, Knuckles is descended from the Knuckles Clan and is the only known surviving member. However, his backstory remains a mystery even to himself. He does not know how he came to be or where he really comes from; all Knuckles knew was his dedication to protecting the all powerful Master Emerald. In fact, his ancestors committed themselves as the Master Emerald's guardians.
Personality[]
Knuckles is selfless, kindhearted and brave; however, he can be stubborn and easily manipulated by Dr. Eggman. Despite his rivalry with Sonic, they are actually best friends, along with Tails. Of the trio, Knuckles is the most serious, while Sonic is the Trickster and Tails is the "nerd." He is willing to fight anything for the world when an entire threat is at large.
Additionally despite everyone believing Knuckles to be bull headed and naive, he is fairly intelligent and takes his duty as a protector of the world and the Master Emerald seriously.
Powers and abilities[]
Knuckles is able to draw power from chaos energy, granting him super strength, as well as enhanced reflexes and stamina. He also has enhanced speed that is not as powerful as Sonic's super speed. His skills include gliding, digging holes and climbing
Since he is the Master Emerald's guardian, Knuckles is the one who knows the lore better than anyone and uses it whenever the Earth is in crisis.
