Kludd, also known as Metal Beak, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Nyra) of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series by Kathryn Lasky. He is the brother and sworn enemy of Soren and Eglantine, the father of Coryn and the uncle of Blythe, Bell and Sebastiana.
He is, in the third book, revealed to be Metal Beak, the Leader of the Pure Ones' after the previous one was presumably killed by Kludd and his mate, Nyra.
Biography[]
Kludd is Soren's and Eglantine's brother and Marella and Noctus' son just as the depiction in the movie.
He is actually Metal Beak while the original Metal Beak was killed by Kludd and his mate, Nyra. However, Kludd being the next Metal Beak is alluded to briefly in the end of the film. Another differenece is that Kludd's book counterpart is more wicked and cruel.
Kludd is later killed by Twilight to spare Soren' of the grief.
Personality[]
Kludd's book counterpart is more wicked and cruel compared to his film counterpart. He was an angry and violent hatchling who disobeyed his parents' rules, bullied his siblings, and was rude to Mrs. Plithiver, their nest-maid snake. He was a recruit for the Pure Ones since his childhood (possibly infancy), and went so far as to pushing his own brother out of the tree to become a true Pure One, and even possibly murdering his own parents.
As leader of the Pure Ones, he was cruel, brutal, cunning, ruthless, power-hungry, and extremely hateful. He had an intense hatred for his family and often bullied Soren and Eglantine, up to the point for his usually good natured parents would get agitated about. He believed in tyto blood supremacy from a young age and fell in love with his wife Nyra, who shared his ideology. He was cruel and merciless up to the point where Kludd willingly murdered his own parents, Moonblinked his sister Eglantine and attempted to kill Soren every time they encountered the other.
However, Kludd's arrogance and hatred for his younger brother ultimately led to his undoing, as Twilight, one of Soren's best friends killed him.
Trivia[]
- In the movie, Kludd shows signs of having feelings for Nyra, as in the books.
