King Sombra is a major antagonist of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic , appearing as the main antagonist of both the Season 3 premiere "The Crystal Empire" and the Season 9 premiere "The Beginning of the End".
He was a tyrannical ruler of the Crystal Empire who enslaved and oppressed the innocent Crystal Ponies before Sombra was overthrown by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna . However, he placed a curse on the Empire, making it disappear for one-thousand years. When it suddenly returns, King Sombra returns to retake the kingdom. However, he is defeated by Princess Cadance and Spike after putting the Crystal Heart that helps form a protection spell around the Empire and destroys Kign Sombra.
