Katolis is a kingdom that first appears in the first episode of the first season of The Dragon Prince.
It is one of the five Human Kingdoms that make up the Pentarchy.
Society and Culture[]
Katolis is one of the Kingdoms on the Pentarchy that is known for its large arms, persimmons jelly tarts and kindness. It is symbolized by the colors red and gold. It's also had one of the largest militaries in all the Pentarchy.
The people seem to believe in a female entity called Lady Justice. However, in Katolian religion, however, her presence is significant enough to appear in Harrow's dream. She is apparently worshiped like an angel or a saint they worship. They also believe in the afterlife, a place where people transcend to after dying.
When a beloved king or queen passes away, they will be mourned for seven sunsets before they are buried in the Valley of Graves. However not all rulers earn their place here. If the king or queen dies without an heir, then an orphan will be selected as the new king. One of the rulers, the Orphan Queen presumably inherited the throne this way or was named in honor of her.
They Also have their own versions of stories and fairytale. One centers on a Moonshadow Elf, Lasair goes by another name called "the Insidious". [1] Another story was "The King of 100 Eye. " In the tale a younger King of Katolis was betrayed by his closest confidante, making the king paranoid of engine around him. He became so paranoid that he made everyone spy on each other and turn against one another. Everywhere, everyone distance themselves from the king. His beloved wife was the only one who still believed in him but when the King started suspecting his wife, he had her exiled. The king ended up dying old and alone. The story teaches people about trust. Amaya told this story to Janai, who started suspecting everyone in the Six Horns including Amaya. Later, Janai mentions to Amaya that she left out a part of the story in which the king's distrusting of his true love but it made Janai realize that she was doing the same thing to Amaya and they reconciled.
Before the battle at the Storm Spire, many Katolians believed that all elves were monstrous, showcasing racism. Amaya judged Rayla for being an elf but late apologized to her in the Great Bookery. She also had a heated rivalry with Queen Janai of the Sunfire Elves until she saved her life when they were fighting at the Breach. 2 years late, they ended up falling in love and marrying each other. Callum also believed Moonshadow Elves to be bloodthirsty, as he mistook Rayla's moonberry juice for blood. However Rayla took offense to that. It was later revealed in "The Blood Moon Huntress," a Moonshadow elf, Kim'dael's consumption of blood of still-living beings and forbidden magic to prolong her lifespanmay have started this rumor. Rayla also encountered the Bloodmoon Huntress as a child, explaining why she took offense. Eventually, Callum and Rayla
Winter begins in December 3, the late Queen Sarai's birthday.
Vendors sell spiced cider from giant cauldrons, paired with pastries filled with pork or strong cheese originating from Duren. [2]
For birthday traditions, Katolians perform a birthday song for the targeted audience ("Dear Callum", "Rebirthday")
Katolis grows a variety of its own food and also imports goods from their neighboring nation, Duren. One of Katolis delicacies includes jelly tarts, which are a favorite of the royal family. During winter, people tend to enjoy a cup of hot spiced cider, a seasonal drink mixed from apples and other fruit, as well as holiday spices, usually served with pieces of cinnamon.[2]
Geography[]
Katolis is located in the Southeast of the Human Kingdoms and west of the Border. It is directly neighbored by both Del Bar and Duren. Opeli, Corvus and Barius, knowing that Queen Aanya was a fair and noble ruler who despised lord Viren's original plan to invade Xadia, went to her court. After receiving them, Aanya agreed to aid King Ezran and Prince Callum in defending the Dragon Queen and Prince from Viren's forces
Katolis is known to be heavily forested, with several mountains and a few large lakes and rivers found within the region.
The highest mountain of Katolis is Mount Kalik, located in the South of the kingdom.
The longest mountain range is located directly at the Border, east of the capital. Ocean points bordering at Katolis include Dragontail, Weeping Bay, and the Independent Isles.
Wildlife of Katolis include Banthers, Burrow Bugs, Glow Toads, Leviathans, Sunray Monarchs, Xadian Songbirds, Zapper Beetles, birds, deer, raccoons, squirrels, and wolves.
Katolis is home to a diverse population of humans, while elves are rarely seen and seem to avoid humans. Rayla is the only elf who currently lives in Katolis due to her relationship with Callum.
It's currency is golden coins.
