Princess Karina is a minor character in the 2023 adaptation of The Little Mermaid (based on the original 1989 Disney film). She is the princess of Atlantica, one of Ariel's sisters and the fifth daughter of King Triton.
She is based on Arista from original The Little Mermaid film.
Personality[]
According to the Guide to Merfolk, Karina is the ruler of the Saithe Sea (translation; Dark Sea), a body of water mostly coated with ice, meaning it's somewhere in the Arctic. This possibly means that Karina and merpeople can adapt to water depending the climate. She is the most decisive, reclusive, and intuitive of her sisters. Ever since her mother died Karina has been afraid of humans, especially when they threaten her harp seals. This is because she works closely with the creatures native to her home waters.
She also shares her father's prejudice towards humans because one had killed her mother. However, after Ariel's marriage to Eric, Karina presumably has gotten over her fear and hatred towards humanity. She showed her support by appearing after Ariel's and Eric's wedding prior to their travels.
