This article is about an adaptation of the character Supergirl. For her comic book counterpart, see Supergirl (DC).
“Hope, help, and compassion for all. That's what I stand for.”
―Kara Danvers
Kara Zor-El, known on Earth as Kara Danvers, is the tritagonist of the Arrowverse, debuting as the titular main protagonist of the television series, Supergirl and a supporting character in The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
She was to sent to Earth to look after Kal-El but as her and her cousin's home planet exploded, Kara was sent into the Phantom Zone for twenty four years without being aged. When her pod is found in Earth, Kal-El, now known as Superman puts her in the care of Eliza and Jeremiah Danvers. Twelve years later, Kara Danvers has lived in National City and became Cat Grant's secretary for a long time.
After saving a plane that was carrying Alex, she was soon recognized as National City's protector, dubbed Supergirl by Cat Grant, as well as being called the "Girl of Steel" and the "Last Daughter of Krypton." She has become one of the world's greatest heroes, revered for her kindness and will to help others. Later, she became a part-time member of the D. E. O. to fight evil aliens alongside her adoptive sister Alex. After Cat's leave of absence and eventual departure from CatCo Kara became a journalist and eventually formed her own team, before finally becoming the editor in chief of Catco Worldwide Media.
Kara has been regarded as a beloved national hero, alongside Superman and has Lex and Lena Luthor as her number one fans. However, this is a ruse, as they hate her.
She and The Flash have done numerous crossovers and is known to the publi as being partners in crisis.
In the new Multiverse, young Kara's life remained mostly the same; however, her best friend Kenny was never killed and they actually ended up dating while acting as secret superheroes for Midvale for years. She encountered a time-traveling Nia Nal and Querl Dox, her future friends and teammates.
Personality
It is revealed during the Anti-Monitor crisis that because of her optimism, integrity and ability to inspire others, Kara is the designated Paragon of Hope, showing no matter what, her optimism persists.
As a child, Kara only wanted to become a hero like her cousin, Kal-El despite everyone telling her "no." However, she was still at a young age and her adoptive parents wanted Kara to have a normal life. As she grew older, Kara accepted Earth as her home planet and chose to live the life of a normal person. However, even before she became a hero, Kara always had the fight in her, often pointing out that she has the same poewrs as Clark does.
She initially had a cold relationship with her sister, Alex, who initially blamed her for her dad's disappearance. However, the girls bonded after solving their mutual friend, Kenny Li's murder and Alex was downgraded. Despite the distance, Kara still remained in close contact with Clark, often emailing him and visiting each other once in a while.
Powers and Abilities
Kryptonian Physiology: Kara Zor-El is one of the most powerful beings in the entire multiverse who originated from a race that lived on the planet, Krypton. She became a resourceful hero, using both her powers and her strong will. However, like all Kryptonains, Kara has no powers when living on Krypton or coming to Argo City because both locations absorbed the solar energy of a red star. The same principals are relied upon when Kara is exposed to the energy of a blue star, which will render her powerless like a red sun. Instead, Kara relied on the average abilities of comparable with that of a human. However, when she is living on Earth or in the proximity of a yellow sun or at least, the equivalent of yellow solar energy, Kara is granted superpowers. The only weapon capable of harming her is kryptonite, a radioactive rock found on Kara's homeworld.
Solar energy absorption: When under the effects of a yellow sun, Kara gains immeasurable powers and incredible strength. However, Kara can lose her powers if she exhausts her power. After her fight with the Red Tornado, Kara lost most of her powers due to her exhaustion fighting the robot. According to Harry Wells, if Kara or any other Kryptonian takes in excessive amounts of solar energy, then it would act like a cancer and eventually kill her. This is precisely what happened with Kara's Earth-X counterpart, who exhausted herself with too much solar radiation intake. After her battle with Red Daughter, she is shown to be able to take the solar energy out of plants to recharge herself.
Accelerated healing factor: Due to Kara's metabolism being tremendously enhanced, she is able to heal faster than a normal humans. However, like Barry Allen, Kara burns calories at a superhuman rate, making her immune to obesity. She healed after being struck by an alien war hammer.
Contamination immunity: Kara is immune to all poisons, diseases, and illnesses. According to Cat, Kara never gets sick, which is why she was surprised that Kara sneezed and was sick for an entire day. When she was facing Pestilence, the world killer's virus wasn't effective on Kara until she was scratched on her arms and face by the Worldkiller multiple times
Flight: Kara is able to manipulate the gravitational field around her and grant her the ability to fly quickly. She moved around Earth twice in a second and go from National City to Kaznia very quickly.

Enhanced hearing: Kara can hear sounds from a mile away. During her first time at school, Kara inactively used this power when she could hear every student's conversations with their friends. It was very difficult for her at first, but Kara managed to master this power if she focused on one single sound. By the time she was an adult, Kara managed to master the power by focusing on a specific sound. When she is supergirl, Kara often listens in on other people's conversations to see which one poses as a threat. She also used this power in order to hear for Alex's voice, which is how she was able to rescue her sister from a corrupted sheriff and later, Kara's aunt Astra. However, if exposed to sound dampening technoloy, Kara feels pain and the screams of Silver Banshee emitted a sound sou loud that it caused Kara's ears to bleed.
Enhanced Vision: Kara's vision has been enhanced greater than that of a normal human and first manifested when Kara was starting school on Earth. She was overwhelmed with her new surroundings and started seeing the other students' skeletons and overhearing everyone with her enhanced hearing. To make things easier for her, Jeremiah gave Kara lead-lined glasses so that way she would not be overwhelmed by her X-ray vision.
Heat Vision: Kara can emit beams of heat from her eyes, which she normally uses to burn things in place.
Microscopic vision: Kara is able to see microscopic objects or people. She can also see people from miles away and uses this to catch criminals or save a life.
Night vision: As Supergirl, Kara has the ability to see in the dark.
X-ray vision: Kara has the power to see through walls and other objects. She also uses it to scan people like an X-ray machine, checking others of their wound. However, she cannot see through anything if it is lined with lead.

In the comics, Kara is still a teenager instead of a young woman. However, her Linda Danvers incarnation is a young woman.
Winn was the second of Kara's friends to know her identity as Supergirl. The first is Jimmy Olsen, who was told by Superman who she was.
This is a third live-action version of the character.
In most stories, Kara is a teenager as opposed to a young woman.
During Krypton's destruction, Kara was only 13 years old.
In the Trinity during the Pre-Anti-Monitor Crisis which consists of her, Oliver and Barry, Kara was the only one who: didn't originate from Earth One, female and didn't make it to Season 8.
There didn't seem to be an Earth-1 counterpart for Kara, at least according to John Deegan. However, given Harry Welles' explanation that there is a Krypton in several Earths, it's possible she may have one. There are several implications she may have one.
first of that characters from other realities have different names than other counterparts, Kara may have a different name on Earth-1. This is the case for Jay Garrick, who is the doppleganger of Henry Allen from Earth-3, but has a different name.
Another possibility for Kara to have an Earth-1 counterpart comes from the fact that she also has an Earth-X counterpart, which also contains an Earth X version of Oliver Queen.
Another explanation would be Kara died during the destruction of Krypton or she is living on Krypton, with the possibility of it never being destroyed.
The fourth and final reason is that she simply does not have a counterpart, like intended.
Kara had five love interests: Kenny Li (in the New multiverse), Winn Schott (before rejoicing they were better off as friends), Adam Foster, James Olsen, Mon-El, and William Dey. Sara Lance, Mick Rory, and Mxyzptlk have expressed interest in her and she has had four other ex-boyfriends.
She is physically 25, the same age that Barry Allen was when his series began. However, she is chronologically 49 due to being trapped in the Phantom Zone for 24 years since age of 13 and her unique physiology to more slower than humans
Despite being annoyed by people who compare her to her cousin, Superman, Kara and Clark both have several similarities with each other: both their birth named start with a "K" (Kara, Kal-El), have the same powers as him, they both lost their families during Krypton's destruction, ended up on Earth, were raised by a human family and wear glasses to conceal their identity. They are also reporters of two separate companies, the Daily Planet and CatCo and enemy with a Luthor sibling (Lena and Lex). However, the differences are Kara's biological parents are still alive and while Clark's and Lex's relationship remains strained, Kara and Lena eventually reconcile.
Kara is seen in 6 crossovers: World's Finest, Invasion!, Duet, Crisis on Earth-X Elseworlds, Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Kara had also appeared in the Earth- Prime comics, where she finally meets Barry's children and Oliver's daugher, Mia.
Kara is extremely close with her cousin-in-law, Lois, with the former treating the latter as a sister because of her own strained relationship with Lucy
Of all Kara's relationships, fans were dead set at the Kara/Lena pairing as it evolved.
Barry was the first individual Kara met from another Earth.
Kara enjoys the TV shows Homeland, Orphan Black, Game of Thrones, and The Wire. She also adores Star Wars and musicals (especially The Wizard of Oz.)
Kara is the only protagonist of the Arrowverse to remain single.
Oliver, Barry, Sara and Jefferson were all married (to Felicity, it's, Ava and Lynn respectively), Ryan was dating Sophie and Lois and Clark from Superman & Lois are still married.
Her favorite dessert is Eliza's homemade chocolate pecan pie
