Kara is the deuteragonist of the 1994 fantasy film, Dragonheart. She was a woman of poor background who would eventually ally herself with Draco the Dragon and Bowen, the Knight of the Old Code, and a rebel against the corrupt King Einon.

Role in the Film[]

At sixteen years old, Kara accidentally wounded Einon, then Prince of his people when she fell from one of the houses that were set on fire by King Frayne. She realized what she had done and looked on in horror as Bowen came and took Einon away.

Twelve years later, Kara pleads to Einon to let her father go, as his castle has finally been built but he coldly kills her father, causing Kara to swear revenge. She attempts to kill him later that night, but he foils her and has her thrown in the dungeons. The next night, Einon remembers Kara as the girl who accidentally knocked him into the tack that pierced his heart and takes her to his room, where he attempts to rape her. Later on, Queen Aislinn smuggles Kara out of the castle, recalling her forced and loveless marriage with her own husband.

Escaping to her village, Kara attempts to rally the people against Einon; however, everyone refuses anda pelts her with food. Bowen at the same time, comes to scam the villagers by telling them that dragons love female sacrifices; the humans try to sacrifice Kara willingly; However, instead of eating her, Draco rescues her and befriends Kara and begins singing to her.

  • In the novelization, Einon was raping Kara, but was exempted from the film to keep it aimed ffor its intended family audience.
