In the original and the New Earth storylines, the initial members were Bruce Wayne/Batman, Clark Kent/Superman, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan /Green Lantern, Barry Allen/The Flash, J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter and Arthur Curry/Aquaman. They were the original Seven Heroes who teamed up together to fight off a gigantic seastar alien, Starro, bent on world domination in The Brave and the Bold. Heroes such as the Green Arrow and the Black Canary joined the team and in recent years, so has some of the original teammates' mentees have joined: Batman's adopted son, Dick Grayson, Barry's nephew Wally West, Aquaman's successor Jackson Hyde, and Superman's son Jon Kent, etc.
Eventually, the team expanded their members to other vigilantes when they realized the world needed saving. The team would later expand to various divisions and subsidiaries, such as Justice League International, Justice League Dark (team of superheroes fighting the supernatural) and recently, Justice League Queer (heroes of the LGBTQ+ community), etc.
In the Arrowverse, a Justice League variant of the team appears in the arrowverse franchise. It is first mentioned by Nora West Allen who mentions that the League tried to find cicada for ages but can never find him. In the series The Flash creates a team that will answer to crisis in response to the Anti-Monitor Crisis and to honor his fallen comrade Oliver Queen. The team features Martian Manhunter and Superman, two superheroes who were canonically the founders of the Justice League. Additionally Supergirl White Canary Black Lightning and Batwoman
This version of the team is founded by Bruce Wayne, and they all team up to fight Steppenwolf (the uncle of Darkseid) and stop them from conquering the Earth. Its team members included Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash (Barry Allen), Cyborg and Superman. The film was released in 2017. It was revived in a director's cut that was closer to Zack Snyder's version before he left production on the original film due to the tragic loss of a family member. It was relaxed on HBO Max, with Zack Snyder's Justice League. Martian Manhunter, Iris West, Ryan Choi, Darkseid and Desaad were restored in the film.

There was going to be a live-action Justice League film back in 2007 called Justice League: Mortal. However, it failed over creative differences.
