Jun Wong is one of the deuteragonists of Dragon: The Nine Realms. She is the daughter May Wong the Director of Project ICARIS and Mr. Wong, the younger sister of Eugene Wong the childhood best friend turned girlfriend of Tom Kullersen, and the close friend of Alexandra Gonzalez and D'Angelo Baker. She is one of the founders of the Dragon Club and the second human to ride a dragon in thirteen centuries. She has Wu and Wei (a Mist Twister) and Nibbles (a Bubblehorn) as animal companions.

Background[]

Fascinated with the occult and supernatural, Jun is a curious girl who possesses a vast knowledge of ancient tales and legends. A childhood friend of the main protagonist, Tom Kullersen, Jun becomes the second person to: rediscover the existence of dragons. They become the first people in protecting the Hidden World and ensuring the safety of the dragons within it. On her first journey to the Hidden World, she becomes the rider of Wu-Wei a Mist Twister dragon.

Official description[]

Jun is a new age mystic and Tom's childhood best friend. There is no myth or magic that she doesn’t believe in, unlike her mum, the no-nonsense director of ICARIS. She hates to be wrong and will sometimes make up facts so she won’t appear ignorant, but she’s a true and loving friend, ready for anything.
She’s thrilled when she discovers dragons, because to her this means every magical legend must be true! She may be the ‘weird one’ in her family, but she is an expert on mythology and lore, often using that knowledge to help her friends navigate through the dragon realms.
―Official description

Personality[]

Jun believes in the occult and the supernatural and gets upset when everyone denies it. She dislikes it when her mother doesn't understand why she is into it. Additionally she has a love hate relationship with her brother, Eugene especially getting annoyed with him. Despite this, Jun does love her mother and brother and is a supportive girlfriend to her boyfriend Tom, her family and dragons.

Abilities and skills[]

  • Dragon Riding and Training: Jun has proven herself to be an adept Dragon Rider, despite lacking formal training before her encounters with Wu and Wei. Even before the dragons were equipped with saddles, she demonstrated remarkable balance by maintaining her position on both of her dragons' heads without any risk of falling. Although Jun faced initial challenges in teaching Wu and Wei new hiding and combat techniques, she ultimately succeeded in instructing her dragons in various methods that significantly benefited the Dragon Club during subsequent missions. Additionally, she has occasionally taught a range of tricks to the dragons of other riders.
  • Interpretation: Jun possesses a talent for interpreting the significance of various methods related to fatalism, including astrology charts and tarot cards.
  • Mythologist: Jun is well-versed in the myths of diverse cultures and has extensive knowledge of numerous legendary figures, creatures, and locations. Her expertise encompasses myths from Chinese, Greek, and Mesopotamian traditions. This profound understanding of ancient myths has been advantageous to the Dragon Club on multiple occasions, particularly in "Ride or Die," where she employed a technique reminiscent of Perseus's strategy to defeat Medusa in order to overcome the Flame Throwers in the Fire Realm.
  • Speed and Acrobatics: Jun has demonstrated exceptional physical fitness and the ability to execute impressive maneuvers in high-pressure situations. In “Ride or Die,” set in the Fire Realm, she showcased her physical capabilities by performing a series of remarkable leaps and jump-flip maneuvers from one molten rock to another, consistently landing accurately while simultaneously engaging in combat with the Flame Thrower dragons, all without losing her focus.
  • Ingenuity: Jun has demonstrated remarkable cleverness and intuition on several occasions. She swiftly formulated a strategy to utilize the wild Magma Breather to seal the entrance to the Hidden World in Sector 2 of the Kullersen Fissure, thereby safeguarding the secret of the dragons. Additionally, she devised an effective method to neutralize the giant Bubblehorn ball before it could reach Rakketown, successfully detonating it from a safe distance, which averted the town's destruction and ensured the safety of its residents.

Trivia[]

  • She is the second person to become a dragon rider in 1,300 years.
  • Its implied that she and Tom may have crushes on each other in earlier seasons. However they eventually became boyfriend and girlfriend. They have their first date in Season 7's episode "Eugene's Lean Mean Extreme Dream Team." In the future it is shown that Tom and June are still dating.
  • The symbol on her tablet is the Eye of Ra, an ancient symbol representing Ra, the Egyptian god of sun and further emphasizing her admiration for the occult.
  • Jun and Eugene are the siblings of the group just like Ruffnut and Tuffnut. Like the twins, Jun and Eugene may not get along but they still have a love-hate relationship that is typical of siblings.
  • Upon reuniting with Tom after the Fault Ripper dragged him down, Jun punched Tom's shoulder and said "That's for scaring me to death" which is a reference to Astrid's line to Hiccup after he woke up from his coma. Toms reply, "What about everything else?" is a reference to Astrid's next action after punching Hiccup, hugging and kissing Hiccup and saying "and that's for everything else!"
