Jonathan "Jon" Kent is a major protagonist in the DC Comics. He is the son of Lois Lane and Clark Kent (better known as Superman), the grandson of Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, the adoptive nephew of Conner Kent, and the best friend of Damian Wayne. He formerly operated under the name Superboy and later Superman, inheriting his father's abilities.

History[]

Jon was born a relatively short time after his parents' marriage, amidst an (attempted) extragalactic invasion by an alien force. His father, true to his nature, attempted to participate in the battle, only to be dissuaded by fellow heroes Martian Manhunter and John Stewart, who insisted that Earth's heroes had the invasion well in-hand, and that he was needed elsewhere= namely, his son's birth.

During the birth, Batman stood guard outside the fortress while Wonder Woman helped support Lois. After Clark arrived at the Fortress, Diana left Lois' side, letting Clark take over. After he was born, they named him Jonathan Samuel Kent, after his paternal and maternal grandfathers. Outside, Bruce and Diana discussed Jon's immense future potential.

Powers and Abilities[]

Human-Kryptonian Physiology:

  • Solar Radiation Absorption: Jon's Kryptonian cellular structure allows him to absorb, store and metabolize solar radiation. Stars of different frequencies give him different abilities, and the yellow sun grants him enhanced physical capabilities, senses, and the ability to defy gravity. Superman states Jon's cells ignite with the power of a supernova.
  • Invulnerability: Because he is half-Kryptonian, Jon's body is nigh-invulnerable due to his superhumanly dense cellular and anatomical structure as well as his radiating bio-electrical aura. However, in the beginning, his invulnerability was inconsistent, as he got a scraped knee and a concussion. Later on, he has shown certain degrees of durability, such as withstanding the impact of a tree branch, and even Robin's Batarangs. He is capable of withstanding the impact of being slammed through a building. As well as fighting beings of similair strength such as other Kryptonians. In addition, his invulnerability also extends protection against toxins, poisons, and diseases. During the Dark Crisis he took on the entire Dark Army on his own and has survived the combined physical assault of Doomsday, Neron, Eclipso, Ares and Darkseid's Omega Beams.
  • Superhuman Strength: As a result of his half-Kryptonian lineage, Jon possesses incredible superhuman strength and is capable of handling tens of thousands of pounds. He was able to stun a large, flying dinosaur with a single punch. According to Jon's mother, Jon is capable of easily lifting up automobiles and large boulders. He has even stopped a train speeding out of control. Jon is capable of fighting other powerful beings such as full grown kryptonians like Zod , monsters like Rogol Zaar and gods like Ares. Batman also comments on how Jon power is growing so quickly he is potentially already stronger than his father or cousin.
    • Super-Leaping: Jon has also demonstrated the ability to use his incredible strength to jump incredible distances and land safely.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Jon possesses a stamina phenomenally exceeding that of humans. Though Jonathan can operate for a substantial period of time without tiring, he eventually does need to rest or relax.
  • Flight: Jon is able to manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity and achieve flight. Jon is capable of flying at speeds comparable to his fathers. Jon has actually beat his father in a race before.
  • Heat Vision: His heat vision is powerful enough to singe even his father's skin and cause considerable collateral damage to his surroundings. He has shown some degree of fine-control as he was able to use it to heat-weld a cape to his jacket. Jon has shown better control over his heat vision than his father being able to detonate his heat vision midair like a bomb, something his father couldn't do. As well as having access to a "hyperviolet spectrum" that Superman doesn't, which produces far more powerful heat vision blasts than normal.
    • Solar Flare: Jon has demonstrated the ability to immediately expel solar energy in gigantic bursts of explosive force. Jon's blasts are capable of causing widespread destruction, similar to a nuclear explosion. Jon has very little to no control over it due to his human heritage.
  • Superhuman Senses: Much like his father, Jon's senses are enhanced to superhuman levels, allowing him to perceive the world in far greater detail than the average human.
    • Enhanced Visual Perception: Though stated by Robin that it would take him a week, Jon was able to thoroughly scan through 175 hours of surveillance videos in a few seconds.
      • X-Ray Vision: Jon possesses the ability to see through solid objects.
      • Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision: Jon can see into all of the EM Spectrum. He can see and identify radio/television and any and all broadcast/transmitted frequencies, allowing him to avoid detection through radar or satellite monitoring methods.
      • Telescopic Vision: Jon is able to see objects from great distances. He was able to focus on the Cosmos One Space Station in orbit.
      • Microscopic Vision: Jon can also see extremely small objects and images down to the subatomic level.
    • Superhuman Smell: On various occasions, Jon has demonstrated that his sense of smell is significantly enhanced to the point he can smell odors across the entire city.
    • Superhuman Hearing: Jon first displayed this power to listen in on the conversation between his father, Batman and Wonder Woman. Jon was also able to hear the heartbeats of certain citizens in the town.
  • Superhuman Speed: Jon has demonstrated the ability to move, react, run and fly at superhuman speeds. He can use this power to disarm opponents, catch bullets or shrapnel and cross vast distances in seconds. Jon has moved so fast that the Teen Titans have mistaken him for Kid Flash when he saved them all in a battle, while Kid flash himself was unable to see Jon when he saved him. Jon has also snatched a bullet fired from a sniper rifle out of the air while moving too fast for the shooter, Talia al Ghul, to perceive what had stopped it despite having her scope trained on her target the entire time. Jon's speed is so great, that he managed to break free from the Time Commander's Chronokinesis.
  • Super-Breath: Jon is able to project his voice at a high decibel level, which is strong enough to shatter all the windows in his home. He later develops the ability to project freezing cold blasts to create considerable amounts of ice. While not having perfected it, Superboy is learning to project hurricane force winds by breathing.
  • Energy Transference: Jon is able to manipulate the stored solar energy within his body in ways that an average Kryptonian cannot. He can either use it to temporarily boost his baseline powers or display new powers outside the typical Kryptonian template. He first began manifesting this ability after stopping Bendix, and it was uncontrollably unlocked after he was exposed to Lazarus Resin., but he later begins to gain control of this ability in his fight with Ultraman.
    • Electrokinesis: Jon's body emits his stored solar energy as a powerful electrical energy. He is able to manipulate this electricity for a variety of effects.
      • Electro-Blast: Jon can project his lighting in concentrated blasts from his hands, and even emit large bursts of lightning from his entire body.
    • Enhanced Speed: Jon can tap into his stored energy reserves to increase his speed, allowing him to run and fly faster than a typical Kryptonian or the Wonder Woman of Earth 49, whose speed is considered equivalent to the God Hermes.
    • Enhanced Strength: Jon can tap into his stored energy reserves and metabolize it at a greater rate than normal, increasing his strength beyond even a typical Kryptonian. This allowed him to overpower Ultraman with only a few blows.

Abilities[]

  • Heavy Machinery Operation: Superman has taught Jon how to drive the family tractor at their home, and apparently Jon can also drive a semi-truck.
  • Indomitable Will: Superboy's force of will is strong enough to overcome Time Commander's Time Freeze.
  • Multilingualism
  • Stealth: Jon practiced sneaking around Robin, letting him get past his older Earth 49 counterpart.
