Queen Janai is a major protagonist in The Dragon Prince, having a supporting role in the first saga and a major one in "The Mystery of Aaravos". She is the queen of Lux Aurea and the Sunfire Elves, the wife of General Amaya and the maternal aunt of Callum and Ezran. She was also the older sister of Karim and the great-granddaughter of Queen Aditi, the Sunfire Queen who Aaravos murdered, causing the Sunfire Queen to feel the same hatred for the Startouch Elf.

Janai orders Lucia to hold out her hands and decided to cut her chain sparing her life instead.

After Miyana's betrayal, Janai then confronts the Six Horns and judges them for realizing a traitor lived amongst them. However as soon as she starts suspecting Amaya, the woman tells her fiance of a story called "The King With A Thousand Eyes". In the story, the king suspected that everyone were unreliable after being betrayed by his trusted advisor including his own wife, the only one who never give up on him. Realizing she is doing the same thing with her people and Amaya, Janai apologized and swears to marry her.
They eventually get married, but their wedding was also the day that Karim and Miyana spring their short livedwar into action. However, their invasion is a failure even with Sol Regem attacking Katolis. After defeating Karim, the humans and elves celebrate Janai and Amaya, who dance together. However, Ezran collapses on the ground upon learning about Sol Regem's attack on Katolis, causing Janai and Amaya to stop dancing upon seeing their nephew's distress.

Janai is a tall female Sunfire Elf with dark red hair, Brown eyes and skin tone. She wears long red tunic with gold designs and gold armor plating on her shoulders, arms, waist, and legs, large golden crown upon her head, robes colored white and gold, golden cape and she wears a helmet similar to that of a crown, with a large gold stone at the center.
