James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie "Jamie" Fraser is the deuteragonist of the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon. He was a Scottish soldier and landowner. He is well-educated and has a knack for learning languages. Raised to be the future Laird of Lallybroch, he is a natural leader, from the homestead to the battlefield. He first meets Claire on his return home to Scotland from France.
Born to Ellen and Brian Fraser, James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser was born May 1, 1721 in Lallybroch near Iverness Scotland. He and his family lived in their home of Lallybroch. His older brother, William, died of smallpox when he was only six or so. Because of this, Jamie was born to be the next Laird of the house. His mother died when his younger brother, Robert was born, who died along with Ellen. His older sister Jenny, became the mother of the house and both were raised into adulthood.
