Jack Fenton is a major protagonist in Nickelodeon's Danny Phantom. He is the husband of Maddie Fenton and the father of Jazz, Danny and later, Danielle Fenton.
Jack is the patriarch of the Fenton family who is a fanatical ghost hunter. As part of his job, he hunts down all ghosts, going on to despising them. However, unknown to Jack his son is Danny Phantom until the series' finale.
In the future, he and Maddie become the paternal grandparents of Danny's children, Misty and Jackson, and the father-in-law of Sam Manson twenty years after the series,
History[]
Background[]
Most of Jack's background is a mystery; however, according to him, he was "born in a log cabin" and he always wanted a pony but couldn't because he and his family ate horse meat during the war. However, it is unknown if this is true or if it is just Jack rambling on. Other than that, his upbringing is never mentioned. His only known parent revealed was his father who was called "Grandpa Fenton" by Danny and Jazz. However, it was revealed in "Infinite Realms" that Jack and his family are descendants of the witch hunter John Fentonightingale, who was obsessed with hunting witches during the Salem Witch Trials, as Jack has an obsession with hunting ghosts. This implies that encounters with the Supernatural and developing obsessions about them ran within the Fenton Family.
College Years[]
Friendships with Vlad Masters and Maddie Fenton[]
In the 1980s, Jack went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he fell in love with his future wife, Maddie Fenton. During those years, Jack befriended Vlad Masters before he became a billionaire and ghost supervillain. Together, all three hung out together as best friends but Jack was unaware that Vlad also had feelings for Maddie. Jack said they were popular in college and at one point, they joined a band called "The Skunk Punks." However, it didn't catch onto him until adulthood when he realized that it was not the best name for a band.
Vlad's Accident[]
The trio made a prototype portal machine to an alternate dimension known as the Ghost Zone but Vlad doesn't think that it will work. During one of their testing, Vlad stands in front of the portal when Jack activates it, the blast from the small explosion causes Vlad's face to grow Ecto-Acne. He was hospitalized for months but the accident also destroyed his social life and, in his eyes, his chance at entering in a relationship with Maddie. However, the blast also rewrote Vlad's DNA, making him the world's first human/ghost hybrid. After Vlad recovered, Jack could never reconcile with him.
Marriage to Maddie Fenton[]
Shortly after graduating, Jack and Maddie married May 9th, 1986. However Alicia, Maddie's sister, disapproved of their marriage. Moving to Amity Park, they begun utilizing careers in ghost hunting. Two years into their marriage, Jack and Maddie had two children together: Jasmine in 1988 and Daniel in 1990.

- Jack was the first person seen on the series and the character to have the first lines in the series.
- Jack was named after the character Jack Torrance from The Shining, who also had a son named Daniel who also guess by the nickname Danny.
