The Jörmungandr is an unfathomably large sea serpent or worm who dwells in the world sea originating from Norse Mythology. It is also known as the World Serpent and the Midgard Serpent, circling around the world. When it releases its tail, it begins Ragnorok, the end of the world.

Near the end of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes episode "A Day Unlike Any Other", Odin banished Loki to a world where he is tortured by the Midgard Serpent.

In the animated series, Avengers Assemble, the Midgard Serpent was brought to Avengers Tower by the Impossible Man to spice up his show on the Falcon. It ends up going in a rampage upon the city, which causes a rampage on the city until the Impossible Man "scrubs the scene" by making the villains disappear..

Jörmungandr is a dragon that Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III defeated prior to the series. It was locked in a specialized cage created in the Dark Realm that can only be opened by the muzzle of a Night Fury dragon or a descendant Night light. It is known as the apex predator to all dragons.
