Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The son of Amanda Armstrong and a rogue S.HI.E.L.D. agent Jude he was raised by Amanda's friends, Howard Stark and Maria Stark .
He is a billionaire and philanthrapist who is the CEO of Stark Industries, but secretly operates as Iron Man from New York City. Tony has been a founding member of the Avengers and the creator of the suit of armor he wears as a vigilante.
Publishing History The character was co-created by writer and editor Stan Lee, developed by scripter Larry Lieber, and designed by artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. The character made his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #39 (cover dated March 1963), and received his own title in Iron Man #1 (May 1968). In 1963, Iron Man became a founding member of the superhero team, the Avengers, along with Thor Odinson, Hank Pym/Hulk, and Hope van Dyne/Wasp. He was often depicted as a billionare, philannthrapist and playboy who suffered from a severe chest injury during a kidnapping. The Ten Rings forced him to build a group of weapons of mass destruction. Instead, he maeks a protective suit of Iron to save his life and free him from captivity. He continued to make improvements, such as technology and other advanced weaponry, mostly comingn from his company, Stark Industries. He would eventually reveal himself to the Public as their hero, Iron Man, and became one of the most revered hheroes of the world.
