- “The great North American school of magic was founded in the seventeenth century. It stands at the highest peak of Mount Greylock, where it is concealed from non-magic gaze by a variety of powerful enchantments, which sometimes manifest in a wreath of misty cloud.”
- ―Description of the school
Ilvermorney School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a wizarding school featured in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series. Like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Durmstang, and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, it is a wizarding school in which American witches and wizards learn how to control their magic.
History[]
Isolt Sayre's desire to go to Hogwarts as a child was a dream. After telling her adopted sons Webster and Chadwick Bolt of the school, they wanted to go as well. However, they were unable to, mostly due to Isolt's fear her aunt would hunt her family down. Inspired by both her dream and her sons, Isolt and her husband, James. Together, the family built house around 1627 and named it after her childhood family home Isolt lived in back in Ireland. Overtime, their house would magically expand into being a castle.
Houses[]
Instead of using their last names like Hogwarts the founders chose the name of their favorite magical creature. Chadwick created Thunderbird, Webster created Wampus, Isolt created Horned Serpent. James had the most difficulty naming his house because he was a No-Maj (another term for Muggle, non-magical person). However, his wife inspired him to choose Pukwudgie after remembering the story of her friend William.
