Personality[]

Dr. Ian Malcolm is a mathematician, and intelligent survivor. He is the father of Kelly Malcolm and five other children. Unlike his close friend, Alan Grant, who disliked kids at first, Ian adores children due to being a father to Kelly and her five siblings. He is very protective of his daughter, and is worried about her safety when Kelly stows away on his expedition rather than being babysat by her sitter, Karen. However, Kelly he changes his mind about Kelly after she becomes the first human to ever kill a dinosaur. He would even go to help save Maisie Lockwood and Beta, a young human girl and dinosaur. Unfortunately, Ian has been married so many times that he hasn't really had a stable relationship until meeting Sarah Harding. He is also a very ethical person and initially doesn't believe that the recreation of dinosaurs is a genius idea. He (correctly) assumes that the genetic dinosaurs were able to change sexes and have the ability to mate with others, despite them being born females. The DNA in their genetic makeup was from a frog that could change sexes in order to evolve.

The trauma experienced in the first film, combined with the resulting fallout from his public discreditting, have improved Malcolm's personality drastically in the second movie, though he retains his sense of humor and sarcasm.

In the third Jurassic World movie, he is shown to be a very moral person going to expose Biosyn for it's corruption with his old friends, Alan and Ellie and helping Owen and Claire Dearing rescue their daughter. He was also against the idea of Jurassic World and the dinosaurs living among humanity mostly because he's a father and mathematician.
