The House of El was one of the prestige families on the planet Krypton. Though most members of the family were wiped out during the planet's destruction, only Kal-El and Kara Zor-El escaped the planet's destruction.
History[]
On Earth, Kal-El was adopted by the Kents and raised as their own son after being called Clark Kent. Kara also made it to Earth, but she was stuck in stasis for seventeen years.
Now, the cousins protect the Earth as Superman and Supergirl. Clark is currently married to Lois Lane, living peacefully at the Kent Farm with their two daughters.

Comics[]
The House of El was one of the ruling families of Krypton featured in the DC Comics. They are also Kal-El/Clark Kent's and Supergirl/Kara Zor-El's biological paternal family. Later additions included Clark's foster son, Christopher and his wife Lois Lane, their son Jonathan Kent and Osul-Ra and Otho-Ra. Mon-El was re written as their descendant.
The S-shield is referred to as the family's coat of arms in both the comics and the television series. People in the comics took the symbol as a sign of hope. In the SUpergirl TV series, the symbol means "El mayorah, which translates to "Stronger together." In the DC Extended Universe, Clark tells Lois that the mark means "Hope" among his people.
Trivia[]
- The House of El originally took as its symbol the Kryptonian symbol for "air." It isn't until Season 10 where Clark decides to wear the Mark of El, using it as a sign of hope by changing the "8" to an "S."
