Hephaestus is the son of Hera and the god of blacksmiths and fire. In some stories, Hephaestus was also of asexual birth, as Hera gave birth to the baby by herself. Disgusted by Hephaestus' appearance, Hera tossed him off of Mount Olympus
Birth[]
In retaliation with her husband's infidelity after Athena was born from his mind, Hera asexually reproduced Hephaestus. However, in doing so, Hephaestus was born deformed. Disgusted by their son's appearance, Hera threw him off of Mount Olympus and into the ocean. Hephaestus was rescued from drowning and raised by the Oceanid Eurynome and the Nereid Thetis, and was taken to the island of Lemnos, but grew up not knowing where he came from.
