Helen Rider is a minor character in Alex Rider. She was the mother of the titular character and the wife of John Rider. Most of his life, Alex believed his parents died in a plane crash. However, it was revealed that she and John were killed by a bomb that was planted on their plane by their best friend Ash.

He had seen photographs of this woman and he was astonished to find her here. He knew that he was looking at his mother. 

He tried to get up, but he couldn’t. He wanted to hold her hand, but his arms would no longer obey him. He wasn’t breathing any more, but he hadn't noticed.     

The man and the woman stepped forward out of the crowd. The man said nothing; he was trying to hide his emotions. But the woman leant down and reached out a hand. Only now did Alex realize that he had been looking for her all his life. Helen was born in 1974. She married John and had their son Alex. It's unknown of the nature of her relationship with Ian Rider or Yassen Gregorovich.  After Helen became pregnant, John choosing his son over the job and faked his death in front of SCORPIA. According to blunt they gave them new identity

John and Helen were later killed in a plane crash. However due to Yassen Gregorovich not knowing John was a double agent, claimed that Helen died in the plane crash alone.  According to Blunt, Helen and John were going to go into hiding and raise their son away from this life.  They died in a plane bombing in 2006 when Alex was barely a year old.

Personality[]

It is implied that Helen was a woman who loved her husband and son.

Her personality in the TV series is implied to be warm as well. Julia Rothman maintained a hatred of Helen, even calling her a "bitch." However acording to Jones, Helen and John were both good people and that she was responsible for looking after both of them.
