“This is your chance. To earn that look in your daughter's eyes. To become the hero that she already thinks you are. It's not about saving our world, it's about saving theirs. Scott, I need you to be the Ant-Man.”
―Hank Pym to Scott Lang
Hank Pym (formerly known as Ant-Man) is the deuteragonist in Ant-Man, and the tritagonist of the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. He is the first known Ant-Man.
During a mission with his wife, he and Janet were tasked with deactivating a Soviet bomb in the 1980s. They both knew they had to shrink down to destroy the missile. Janet shrunk into a small size, but not before telling Hank to tell their daughter she loved her. Pym was heartbroken at the loss of his wife and found telling his daughter was the hardest thing he ever did. Hank feared it would bring about great damage if it fell into the wrong hands, which caused him to lock the Pym Particles away and his Ant-Man suit.
