Bio[]
Birth of the Olympians[]
Hades was born thousands of years ago to Kronos and Rhea. He and his siblings are eaten by Kronos except for his youngest brother, Zeus, who Rhea hid away on an island with wood nymphs. After Zeus freed his siblings from their father, the Olympians declared war on their parents and overthrew the Titans during a ten-year war that ended with Kronos' fall. To help themselves in the oncoming war, the elder Cyclopes forged the sons of Kronos formidable weapons, including Zeus' Master Bolt, Poseidon's Trident and Hades' Helm of Darkness. Zeus proceeded to take his father's scythe and chop him into a thousand pieces. They banished his remains to the depths of Tartarus, the deepest and darkest parts of the Underworld.
After the war, Hades became the Underworld's ruler and eventually abducted and married Persephone. Despite popular belief, he became quite content with his duties and accepted The Underworld as his home. He considered it the best place he could get away from his family's drama. Seventy years ago, The Battle between Hades and his brother's lead to World War II. Sometime before the series, Hades and his brothers swore on the River Styx to never father anymore children due to their powerful and destructive tendencies. However, unbeknownst to everyone, Hades fathered two children, Bianca and Nico di Angelo sometime before the pact was made.
Five years ago, Hade's Furies, attacked Thalia Grace (daughter of Zeus), Annabeth Chase, Grover Underwood and Luke Castellan. Unfortunately, Thalia was mortally wounded, Zeus transformed his daughter into a tree to spare her from Hades' and the Furies' wrath on the underworld. Several years later, six months prior to the series, Hades' Helm of Darkness was stolen by Luke Castellan during the Winter Solstice. Assuming that his nephew Percy Jackson stole it, Hades sent Alecto to retrieve the Helm from the preteen.
Season one[]
Personality[]
Unlike other modern adaptations and the 2010 film adaptation, Hades remains faithful to his book and mythological counterpart: he is not outright malicious or evil. In fact, he is quite content with his life in the Underworld.
Despite his mild manner, there is a darker side that Hades has yet displayed in the series. For example, some of his Furies attacked Thalia Grace and her companions. Since Alecto follows Hades' orders without question, it is highly implied Hades sent the monsters after Thalia, Luke and Annabeth like he did in the books for revenge on Maria's death but this hasn't been confirmed yet.
Trivia[]
- In the books, Hades is the father of demigods Bianca and Nico di Angelo. In the series, Hades wanted revenge against Zeus for killing his lover Maria di Angelo. After the Pact made on the river Styx, Hades is the only one who didn't break his oath. He hides his children in the Lotus Hotel and Casino and curses the Oracle of Delphi until he and his family are respected on Mount Olympus. Hades also sent Monsters after the group in retaliation for Zeus killing his children's mother and Hades' girlfriend Maria
