Gustav Larson is one of the supporting characters in DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon franchise. He is the youngest of the Dragon Riders and owner of a Monstrous Nightmare, Fanghook.

Abilities

• Dragon Training and Riding: Gustav is the youngest trainer at the Academy. When Snotlout was convinced he was going to die, he decided to recruit Gustav to be his replacement. Snotlout taught him about mounting, respecting, feeding, and eventually riding a dragon by using Hookfang as the example. Gustav, however, wasn't very good at any of this as he was inexperienced. Snotlout's teachings did, however, influence him to attempt to train his own Monstrous Nightmare, which he named Fanghook. Over the next few years, he became a more experienced rider by himself before being trained by Astrid to become a member of the Auxiliary Team.
• Sheep Rider: He was able to ride a sheep, pretending it was a dragon.
• Acting: He had shown as a young boy to be somewhat cunning. He tricked Hiccup and Snotlout into believing that he had released Fanghook back into the wild and later, Dagur into going into an unstable cavern alone only to be ambushed by Hiccup.
• Leadership and Teaching: As the captain of the A-team it can be assumed that the team follows Gustav's lead and have been taught more about riding from him since Astrid never completed their training.

Mrs. Larson

Gustav doesn't seem to have a very good relationship with his mother sometimes as she was willing to trade him away for a alleged fortune stone (without realizing it's a Changewing egg). It is also implied that she can be very neglectful and doesn't even notice her son is gone for 3 days.

Trivia

• He is the youngest of the Dragon Riders introduced in the series at the mere age of 12.
• Gustav is one of the few younger Vikings to have a real world name. However, some of the Dragon Riders' have real life names as middle ones. For example, Snotlout's middle name is Gary, Fishlegs' is Justin, Ruffnut 's is Eugene and Gustav seemed to hero worship Snotlout Jorgenson.
• Due to an animation error, it was mistaken that Hildegard (from Viking for Hire) was Gustav's little sister. However, he does have at least one younger sibling.
• His dragon Fanghook is named after Hookfang.
• He wears a Viking helmet with ram horns just like Snotlout, immitates Snotlout's personality like his arrogance, flirts with Astrid, and tamed a Monstrous Nightmare me named Fanghook after Hookfang. He acts so much like Snotlout that Ruffnut called him "Tiny Snotlout." He also hero-worshiped the other Dragon Riders, wanting to become like them. He later idolized Dagur for a brief time in Season 5.
