Grover goes on to explain that no one could see Mrs. Dodds as a fury because of The Mist. It is a veil that prevents the human world from seeing the magic world. Grover couldn't see her because the magic in their world was in flux.
While driving, the group is suddenly attacked by a minotaur who tries to run them off the road. They spot Thalia's tree in the distance. Sally, meanwhile stays behidn to ward of the minotaur so Percy and Grover can maek their escape. Grover swears to Sally that he will protect her son. When he awakens fully, he is greeted by Grover who tells him that his mother is gone and that he is at Camp Half Blood. Percy has no time to talk and wants to look for his father. Instead, he comes across Dionysus, better known as Mr. D, who sarcastically toys with Percy and tries to order him to get him wine. Mr. Brunner arrives and reveals himself as the centaur Chiron who shows Percy around the camp. Grover attempted to follow but was told to stay behind.
Grover, feeling uneasy about recent events, seeks advice from the Council of Cloven Elders. Later, he informs Chiron and Mr. D that he has found out that Sally is likely still alive. However, Chiron and Mr. D reveal that they already knew about this fact and warn Grover not to tell Percy about it, as it could have serious consequences for his future and destiny.
After Percy learns he is the demigod son of Poseidon and that he was accused of stealing the Master Bolt, Grover disobeys Chiron and informs Percy that his mother is still alive but she is a prisoner of Hades.

After revealing his true self to him, Grover joins Percy, as well as fellow demigod Annabeth Chase, in going on a journey that will change all their lives. However, prior to revealing his true form, Grover will do whatever it takes to protect Percy, even if it means lying about Percy purposefully pushing Nancy Bobofit so he can get expelled. This leads to their strained relationship but they manage to absolve it when Grover purposefully disobeys Chiron and Dionysus and tells Percy that his mother is still alive.
