Griselda is the mother of the Bog King and a supporting character in the 2015 film Strange Magic.
She is the Bog King's mother who wishes for her son to find true love.
History[]
Background[]
Griselda is the Queen Mother of the Dark Forest. In her youth, she was quite the looker, at least in Goblin terms. She carried Bog in her womb for twenty-three months before eventually giving birth to him. After her husband's death, Bog succeeded his father as the next King of the Goblins. When Bog was young, he fell in love with another goblin and put a love potion on her. However, the potion didn't work because the goblin was truly in love with someone else. As such, Bog forbade love in the kingdom. He imprisoned the Plum Fairy in his dungeons and destroyed all the primrose flowers so love potions could not be made. As a result, Griselda made it her mission to make her son find love again. She also hoped to end the ban on true love in the Dark Forest and so began finding women who Bog would deem worthy of his love.
Strange Magic[]
Personality[]
Griselda is a warm, friendly Goblin who cares about her son and his happiness. She also lacks her opposite, Fairy King's somewhat xenophobic attitude, showing no opposition to a goblin and a fairy being lovers. She is also very intuitive, believing that Marianne and Bog were meant for each other after seeing their chemistry. However, Bog considers his mother to be somewhat overbearing, as she constantly pushes him into a relationship. However, Griselda sometimes gets frustrated with Bog's incapability to find love again. despite her friendliness, Griselda is hostile to Sugar Plum for creating the love potion for her son leading to his ultimate heartbreak.

Bog King[]
Griselda loves her son dearly and wants him to find the right woman for him. She even tries setting him up with other girls but Bog doesn’t care for love due to shutting his heart out. It is so bad that Griselda wonders why men like Bog are so guarded about their feelings. However, Bog quickly stops her from saying the word "love". Embittered, Griselda mutters that this is the treatment she gets for carrying him in the womb for almost two years. She notices the attraction between Marianne and Bog, even pushing them together after they sing. Bog truly cares about his mother, as he was dedicated to saving her when their castle collapses in the finale, Griselda makes her son realize his feelings for Marianne and successfully gets them together.
Marianne[]
