The Eagles make their début in The Fellowship of the Ring, where Gwaihir, the King of the Eagles, rescues Gandalf from Orthanc and takes him to safety.
During the Battle of the Black Gate, Pippin noticed the Eagles coming as they went to defeat the Nazgûl and their Fell-beasts. They later help Gandalf rescue Frodo and Sam who were stranded in Mordor overflown with lava from Mount Doom
Sixty years prior, the Eagles rescues Bilbo, Thorin and their thirteen companions after Gandalf summoned them. They later came to the Battle of the Five Armies.
