Grace Nichols (died December 11, 2019) is a minor character in Cobra Kai. She was the estranged sister of Kandace, the ex-wife of an unnamed male and the mother of Tory and Brandon Nichols. She's also a former waitress.
She died on December 11, 2019 from pulmonary embolism, leaving her children on their own.
History[]
Background[]
In the past, Grace married Mr. Nicols and had two children with him; a daughter, Tory and a son, Brandon. However he ex-husband was abusive and eventually left his family to fend for themselves. Grace took a job as a waitress and stole leftovers from work so she could feed her children. The manager fired her once she was caught in spite of the food going to waste. This taught Tory that the world doesn't show people like her mercy and actually instilled into her philosophy and way of fighting. She became the sole provider for her family, taking odd jobs whenever she could.
In 2014, Grace was diagnosed with cancer, leaving her daughter to support her family.
Season 3[]
In Season 3, Grace is heard thanking her son Brandon for lunch. By Season 5, Grace has become bedridden up to the point where a hospital bed is placed in her room.
Season 6[]
Grace remained mostly unseen in the series until Season 6, during her death scene and the small flashback of her telling a story to Tory about a princess taking charge for herself. Tory's mother's death led to her rejoining Cobra Kai but maintaining her care for her friends.
Tory was eventually approached by a branding company executive on a job offer; traveling the world acting as a spokesperson for junior karate martial artists with her boyfriend. They're for Tori was finally able to get out of poverty fulfilling a wish her mother had always wanted for her and Brandon.
Personality[]
Grace was a caring and motherly to her children, risking her job by stealing leftovers from a restaurant just so she could provide for her children. Her daughter Tory is hot-tempered and Kandace claims that Tory got her temperament from her father.
Her sister Kandace is greedy and self-absorbed, only wanting her sister's disability check and child support for money she can spend on herself. Tory considered her mom to be kind and caring, citing that Amanda and Daniel were the only people apart from Grace to treat her with kindness.

- Grace is one of the few parents of the main characters to be deceased by the end of the series, along with Laura Lawrence-Weinberg, and Daniel LaRusso's father.
- Grace passed away exactly eight days before the 18th anniversary of the 1984 All-Valley Championship, which was on December 19th, 1984 and seven days before Daniel's 53rd birthday, December 18th.
