- “Everything's a lesson. Every moment with me. And if there's one thing you learn today, it's this-- the best way to build an army was through fear.”
- ―Gerard Argent
Gerard Argent was the main antagonist of the MTV series, Teen Wolf and one of the overarching antagonists (alongside Jennifer Blake) of the 2023 film Teen Wolf: The Movie.
He was the father of Christopher and Kate Argent, the father-in-law of the late Victoria Argent and the paternal grandfather of Allison Argent. He was a pure evil and sadistic hunter and leader of the Argent family. who takes pleasure in the Hunt. He was also the arch-enemy of Scott McCall, who he blames for the decimation of his family. This includes the betrayal of his son Chris Argent after he came to see Scott as a friend and a force of good, Allison's demise, and Kate's transformation into a supernatural creature. He was also the mentor of Tamora Monroe and the true mastermind of Monroe's army.
After many failed attempts to kill Scott and his packmates, Gerard attempted to commit a worldwide genocide against all Supernatural creatures, alongside Tamora Monroe. He shot Kate with wolfsbane and disowned her as his daughter for being a supernatural creature. Gerard found himself once again defeated by Scott when the young werewolf and his best friend Stiles Stilinski trapped and killed the Anuk-ite with mountain ash. Realizing her father would never accept her as his daughter, Kate proceeded to maul Gerard to death, thus ending his reign of terror.
He was portrayed by Michael Hogan.
Throughout Teen Wolf series[]
Season 1[]
In "Code Breaker," Victoria briefly mentioned to Gerard that [they] would be there in a few days. As she questioned what they would do about Scott, Chris Argent (somewhat sympathetically) told his wife that Scott had more problems to worry about.
Season 2[]
In "Omega", Gerard first shows up at Kate's funeral, where he finds one of the photographers, Matt Daehler, taking a picture of his granddaughter, Allison. Gerard took Matt's camera and destroyed its memory card. Scott and Stiles, who are watching from behind the statue, immediately find Gerard intimidating. Stiles remained optimistic and hoped that the Argents arriving were "non-Hunters." However, Scott could see that Gerard was a hunter when the man suddenly turned his head in his and Stiles' direction. Argent offers his condolences to his son, Chris, and his daughter-in-law, Victoria. However, when he reached his granddaughter, Allison, Gerard asked her if she knew who he was. She recognizes Gerard as her estranged grandfather who was the kind of person who sends money and cards for her birthday. Gerard warmly told Allison that she could call him "Grandpa" when she wanted to; however, he was fine with being addressed by his first name until Allison was ready.
Later that evening, Scott chased down an Omega Werewolf he believed was his friend, Lydia Martin, who had been bitten by Peter Hale during the 2011 winter formal. However, when he came face to face with the Omega, Scott was shocked to see it was a new werewolf. He tried stopping the nameless Omega, only for the homeless werewolf to get caught in one of the Hunters' traps. Gerard and Chris heard the alarm and quickly came running. At the same time, Derek Hale shoved Scott to the ground, saving him from being captured, and restrained him as they hid behind a tree. After Chris interrogated the unnamed Omega, he insisted that he didn't kill anyone living and that the organs he ate were from no one living. He was also there for the Alpha but whether this was Peter or Derek was unknown. Gerard had Chris inform their men that they had captured an Omega, the "Lone Wolf." Argent predicted that this Omega was banished from his pack or more specifically, the sole survivor of a slaughtered one. As he took out his broadsword, Gerard informed the others that an Omega rarely survived on their own before he cut the Omega in half, thus killing him. Meanwhile, Derek forced Scott to watch the entire event unfold so his young protege could see what happened to an Omega. Scott can avoid a similar fate if he accepts membership into the Hale pack. Scott asked what they were doing and Derek declared that it was an act of war.
Meanwhile, Chris was disgusted by his father's actions and reminded Gerard that they followed the Code. However, the older hunter told his son that there was "no code. Not when they murder my daughter", revealing Gerard's plan to avenge Kate. He told his hunters that the Werewolves were just bodies waiting to be cut in half. Gerard didn't care if they were wounded or sick, Innocent souls who never hurt anyone or some desperate soul who had no idea what they were getting into; they were going to kill them all.
Season 3a[]
Season 5b[]
Season 6B[]
After attempting to enact genocide against Scott McCall and his friends, Gerard was foiled by the young Werewolf yet again when he and Stiles killed the Anuk-ite with mountain ash. Chris gloated as his friend beat Gerard once again. Despite the man claiming Scott had "destroyed" their family, Kate called Gerard a stupid old man for continuing to pin the blame on Scott when Gerard himself was the architect of everything that had happened to their family and most of the events that had occurred throughout the series. Meanwhile, Chris angrily pointed out that "[Gerard]'s family" (referring to his children) was right in front of him. To prevent his father from hurting innocent people and anyone else he cared about, Chris willingly abandoned Gerard to his sister, who ultimately mauled their father to death. However, as Chris walked away, he could still hear his father's screams.
Legacy[]
Gerard Argent would always be remembered as one of the world's most ruthless and notorious Hunters of his time. His death indirectly avenged multiple supernaturals killed by Monroe and their fellow Hunters, including Satomi Ito and her entire pack and Deucalion. His name went down in infamy rather than flame as Gerard wanted. Life turned normal for Scott and his allies; some of the citizens who once were members of Monroe's Army likely left and returned to their normal lives. Meanwhile, Nolan Holloway had developed a close friendship with Liam Dunbar, with both of them sharing the "Captain" title of the lacrosse team.
According to Scott, some of his former enemies had become protectors of Beacon Hills, including his sire, Peter Hale, and former enemy Theo Raeken. Despite his death, his protege and follower, Tamora Monroe continued to follow her deceased mentor's plans of wiping out many supernatural creatures.
Without his father's influence, Chris Argent found happiness with Melissa McCall, who he had begun a romantic relationship with. He also continued to help Scott find supernatural orphans for their cause. It was currently unknown what truly happened to his daughter, Kate, but she avenged herself when he turned against her.
After Scott and Stiles defeated the Anuk-ite, Monroe chose to run when she realized her attempted genocide had failed and chose to continue her vendetta from the outside. By 2015, her army had become a global threat to supernaturals around the world. Gerard's influence on Monroe indirectly led to the orphaning of many supernatural children, including Alec and his family. However, by 2026, Monroe's Army had been defeated as their presence was absent in the 2023 revival film.
Teen Wolf: The Movie[]
One of Gerard's deepest hatreds stemmed from his belief that Scott McCall was to blame for his family's decimation, especially regarding his granddaughter, Allison. In 2026, however, Gerard's granddaughter was resurrected by Scott, Malia Tate, and Lydia Martin in the Nogitsune's grand scheme for his revenge against the McCall Pack and their allies. After Allison regained consciousness, she couldn't remember anything from her past, except her grandfather and their family's vendetta against the Hale family. However, with help from Scott and Lydia, Allison finally remembered herself as a hunter and protector of Beacon Hills. Shortly afterward, the Nogitsune and the Oni were outnumbered and defeated for a final time when Derek sacrificed himself to save his family and friends. Allison rekindled her romantic relationship with Scott and moved to Los Angeles to be with him and become the guardian of Derek's son, Eli.
Personality[]
Gerard claims he hates all Supernatural creatures and insists that his hunters slay them all. His hatred for all Supernaturals was so strong that he was even willing to shoot his own daughter with yellow wolfsbane, claiming that she may be an Argent, but Kate was still "one of them." However, most of it was born of hatred and anger that Gerard cannot be special on his own. Despite his xenophobic nature, Gerard was willing to use the supernatural himself as long as it benefits him. After Derek bit Victoria during a fight while he was trying to save his protege Scott McCall, Gerard forced his son to assist Victoria in his daughter-in-law's suicide. However, it was later revealed that Gerard was going to get the werewolf bite from Derek and cure himself of his cancer, proving Gerard was as always, a hypocrite. Another way that Gerard was hypocritical was his willingness to use other supernatural creatures as a means to an end. He used both Jackson as the Kanima once he became the creature's new Master to further his goal to manipulate and intimidate Scott McCall and The Anuk-Ite to use people's fears.
Also, while he claimed to come to Beacon Hills to avenge Kate, hate Scott McCall for getting Allison killed, and help train Tamora Monroe, Gerard was only in it for himself. While he saw Monroe had natural talent and she became his protege, Gerard planned on killing her if Monroe got too problematic. This means he didn't truly care for her well-being at all and was preying on her fear of supernatural creatures. He also took advantage of Allison's grief over losing her mother and hoped he was turning her into a perfect killer like him and her aunt. However, Allison realized Gerard only cared about himself when he was willing to kill his own son and granddaughter if they got in the way of his plans of becoming an Alpha werewolf.
According to Alan Deaton, he had known Gerard since he brought the first Supernatural / Hunter War to Beacon Hills back in the early 2000s. The man was always one step ahead and had a backup plan. Despite his planning, he kept on underestimating Scott and his Pack, who were two steps ahead because of his own hubris and arrogance. In Season 2, Scott figured out that Gerard was slowly dying of an unspecified cancer after picking up a scent of his chemosignals the night he threatened Scott and his mother in front of the hospital. The teenager had previously done the same thing with sick and injured dogs Who weren't getting better during his day job with Deaton. He and Deaton filled empty capsules with mountain ash and switched them to Gerard's cancer pills in "Fury" so when Derek gave the Argent patriarch the bite his body would reject it. He also underestimated the young werewolf yet again during the Pack's conflict with the Beast of Gévaudan, where Gerard didn't anticipate Scott and Chris to double-cross him. A third and final time this happened was when Gerard hoped the yellow wolfsbane would kill Scott, who managed to survive thanks to Derek burning it out of his system. Together, Scott and Stiles trapped and killed the Anuk-ite, successfully robbing Gerard and Monroe of their chance of eliminating the supernatural community.
Due to his deceitful nature and arrogance, Gerard's actions were what ultimately led to his family's downfall. It was his villainy that ultimately led to Kate's bloodthirsty nature that caused her to kill at least seven people and the Hale Family Fire and therefore Peter's vengeance upon her conspirators. In the last moments of his life, his hatred of Scott was so strong, that Gerard continued to blame the young werewolf for the decimation of his family until Chris reminded him that his family was still with him. Unfortunately for him, this ended up backfiring on him, and Kate mauled him to death in retribution after seeing her father for who he truly was - an evil monster. If he had accepted Kate as she became like Melissa did with Scott, then Gerard likely wouldn't have met his end at his daughter's hands.
He was responsible for alienating his own family, such as killing many supernatural creatures (and humans) in cold blood. He caused Allison and Chris to turn against him and side with supernatural creatures who became their friends due to him goading his daughter-in-law Victoria into committing suicide. Argent turned against his father after this and corrupted Allison at the same time. He also solidified his fate by annihilating his own family when he attempted to kill his own daughter just for being a supernatural creature.

Kate Argent[]
Kate was born as Gerard's second and youngest child, as well as his only daughter, and she was raised and trained in the Hunter lifestyle. He manipulated Kate and twisted his way into her mind to Allison. He convinced her that all Supernatural creatures were evil and she adopted his hatred of other wolves and shapeshifters. Kate turned into a merciless killer and disrespected the Hunter Code. While Chris does blame his father for Kate's bloodthirsty nature, he also blamed himself in Season 6a when he was lecturing Malia Tate.
He was presumably the one who manipulated Kate into killing the Hale Family by faking her relationship with Derek Hale. She and nearly a dozen co-conspirators set fire to the Hale House, killing numerous members of the Hale bloodline, including Derek's mother, Talia Hale, and putting his uncle, Peter Hale, in a coma for the following six years; the other survivors included Derek, his older sister Laura Hale, and his younger sister Cora Hale. When Kate was killed by then-Alpha werewolf Peter Hale, Gerard returned to Beacon Hills so he could avenge his daughter. However, since Gerard was interested in his own goals, this was not true; he was there to gain the Bite from Derek Hale and cure himself of his cancer. However, due to Gerard underestimating the young Werewolf Scott McCall and his ability to both predict and prevent what Gerard planned to do, his plan was ultimately unsuccessful. It was also unknown if Gerard was aware that Kate had turned into a Werejaguar when Peter clawed out her throat.
Kate and Gerard reunited during the war between the Beacon Hills supernatural community and Gerard and Tamora Monroe's Hunter Army. Kate wanted to bring herself back into her father's good graces by finding a rare yellow Wolfsbane that could be used in a bullet that would kill Scott McCall. Despite Derek and Chris warning Kate that Gerard never accepted her for what she was, she refused to listen. After providing the Wolfsbane, Kate was appalled that Gerard chose his protege over his own daughter to wound and kill Scott. To her surprise, Gerard took what was left of the yellow Wolfsbane and put it into a bullet before he shot Kate with it. Unknown to both of them, Scott was still alive because his mentor Derek Hale managed to save him. Kate realized that her father would never accept his daughter for who she was. She humorlessly laughed and told him, "You let this happen, you stupid old man. All you saw was him." As Gerard blamed Scott for destroying their family, Chris angrily told Gerard that his children were right in front of him. Kate transformed into her Werejaguar form and killed her father, apparently with Argent's permission and blessing.

Quotes[]
- “Not when they murder my daughter. No Code. Not anymore. From now on, these things are just bodies waiting to be cut in half. Are you listening?Because I don't care if they're wounded and weak...Or seemingly harmless, begging for their life with the promise that they will never, ever hurt anyone...Or some desperate, lost soul with no idea what they're getting into. We find them. We kill them. We kill them all.”
- ―Gerard swears revenge on the Werewolves
Tropes/Acts of Villainy[]
- The Heavy: Gerard was the villain with the most influence over the plot, the obstacles the protagonists face and typically the most proactive antagonist in the story; he was one of the three antagonists to be the main antagonist of a series twice alongside Peter Hale (Season 1 and 2)

Trivia[]
- Gerard is one of the most hated characters on the Teen Wolf franchise because of his cold and cruel nature. He is up there with his daughter, Kate, who fans criticized. He attempted to turn his granddaughter into a ruthless killer like Kate, threatening to kill Melissa if Scott didn't help him, and the fact that he physically abused Stiles in the season 2 finale.
- Fans find Gerard's death at the hands of Kate are karmatic and well deserved.
- Gerard claimed that when he killed Derek after becoming an Alpha Werewolf, Gerard would allow Scott to be with Allison. However, because Gerard is a manipulative man, he would likely have gone back on his word.
- Chris never refers to his father as "Dad" and always "Gerard" while Kate is the only one to address Gerard as such. This foreshadowes Chris's eventual betrayal and Kate's blind loyalty to her father in the series finale.
- Gerard is the only villain on the series to be pure evil, as he rarely makes jokes and has no sympathetic backstories. However in "The Maid of Gevaudan" he did once sarcastically told Lydia that if the Internet is her source of information on The Maid and the Beast Of Gevaudan then she better leave.
- It is implied that Gerard never trusts the internet as a reliable source of information.
- Gerard Argent served as the unseen overarching antagonist of Season 1 and Season 3, the main antagonist of Season 2 and the second half of Season 6, a major antagonist of Season 5,
- He shared the role as the main antagonist of the second half of Season 6 (along with his protégé and accomplice Tamora Monroe and the Anuk-Ite).
