Captain George Stacy was the father of Gwen Stacy and a supporting character in Spider-Man.
George Stacy first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #56 (January 1968), created by writer Stan Lee and artist John Romita Sr.
In live-action, the character was played by James Cromwell in the film Spider-Man 3 (2007), while it was played by Denis Leary in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man film duology.
On Earth-616, George was one of the few police officers who saw the good Spider-Man was doing around New York City and took a liking to Gwen's boyfriend Peter Parker.
Unfortunately George was killed in a two-way battle between Spider-Man and his foe, Doctor Octopus. His death deeply affected both Gwen and Peter. She blamed Spider-Man for the accident and went to live with her uncle in England. Meanwhile, Peter ultimately blamed himself for the incident and began to distance himself from Gwen.
