Before the Imperial era, billions of Geonosians lived on the planet. It was the Confederacy of Independent Systems' first capital and hosted its major battle droid foundries.However by the Imperial era, after the Galactic Empire brought the Geonosians to near-extinction after finishing the primary stage of construction of the Death Star in the planet's orbit. However one Geonosian, Klik-Klak kept a Queens egg hidden, as it was the only way to preserve his race. Despite Commander Rex's dislike for the Geonosians, he and the Ghost crew were horrified to find that the Empire slaughtered the Geonosians to near-extinction.

Geonosis is situated in the slice of the Outer Rim Territories, specifically of the Arkanis sector in the Geonosis system. It has one sun, Ea, and occupies orbital position 2. Geonosis has 15 moons, with Bahryn being the largest among them. According to Star Wars: Complete Locations, there are later 4 moons. Its grid square is R-16. The trade routes include The Crystal Passage and the Triellus Trade Route. The distance from the Core is 43,000 light years from the Galactic Core. The rotation period is 30 hours, which defines the length of a day, while the orbital period spans 256 standard days.

Geonosis diameter measures 11,370 kilometers (3.47 miles). From outer space, the desert planet took on an orange color.
Climate[]
The atmosphere is classified as Type I (breathable), while the planet's climate is characterized as hot and arid, with light gravity. The terrain consists of deserts, mesas, and mountains, with surface water accounting for 5%. Significant points of interest include the Badlands of N'g'zi, Caltrop Field, E'Y-Akh Desert, Geonosis Droid Factories, Geonosian Catacombs, Im'g'twe Hills, Karina's Lair, Orbital Foundry, Petranaki Arena, Point Rain, Progate Temple, and the Rings of Geonosis.
