Gaia, also known as Gaea and Mother Nature, is one of the overarching antagonists of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the main antagonist of its sequel, The Heroes of Olympus.
She is the first being to sprung forth from the void of Chaos. She was indictly responsible for some of the major events in Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The H eroes of Olympus. She is the mother of the Titans, The Gigantes, the Elder Cyclopes and the grandmother of the six original Olympians.
Her current husband is the protogenos Tartarus, whom she conceived the Gigantes, and her former husband is Ouranos, whom she had the Titans. Her Roman counterpart is Terra or Tellus, meaning "earth" in Latin. She is also the Seven's arch-nemesis with the group as a whole.

In the final book, The Last Olympian, Rachel Elizabeth is made the new Oracle and she prophesied the coming of seven heroes who will defeat an oncoming threat.

Gaea was once kind, motherly and produce of her children. She sobbed when her ex-husband Uranus imprisoned her children, the Giants and the Elder Cyclopes. When Rhea called upon her mother to hide her son Zeus from Kronos' wrath, Gaia helped her daughter hide her child. Later, the Titan mother swore revenge against the Gods and their children after what they did to the Titans. She also developed a hatred for the Seven Heroes despite them being her descendants. She hates Percy Jackson the most for his role in her son's demise.
Unfortunately, Gaea's desire for revenge was her undoing. Like her son, Gaea was scattered across the mortal world with the improbability to return in physical form.

- Gaea was mentioned in Season 1 of the series, when the echidna tells Percy they are related, she references that her grandmother is his great-grandmother and comments how complicated their family is.
