Mycroft Holmes is one of the tritagonists of BBC's Sherlock. He is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Holmes and the brother of Sherlock and Eurus Holmes.

Per tradition, Mycroft remains seven years older than Sherlock.

Series 1[]

"A Study in Pink"[]

In the series premiere, Mycroft arranges a meeting with John Watson, one of his brother's recent associates but does not reveal he is Sherlock's brother. Mycroft asks John to spy on Sherlock because he "worries about him, constantly." However, the ex-army doctor refuses to accept the offer. Despite being turned down, Mycroft re-diagnosed John from his therapist and insists he does not have post-traumatic stress disorder and instead likes being with Sherlock because he enjoys the excitement. Before he walks away, Mycroft insists that John should fire his therapist and that he has to pick a side. He has his assistant, Anthea, take John back home.

He later appears at the crime scene after Sherlock was saved by John. It is revealed that Mycroft is Sherlock's brother, much to Dr. Watson's surprise. As John and Sherlock walked away, Mycroft told Anthea to escalate the surveillance on both John and Sherlock.

"The Great Game"[]

Mycroft appears in the series 1 finale, where Sherlock's and John's flat gets blasted by James "Jim" Moriarty. He approaches his brother with a case in investigating the murder of Andrew West and the disappearance of the Bruce-Partington missile project plans. However, Sherlock declined it, leading the elder Holmes brother turned the case over to John instead. Mycroft got impatient with his brother and Watson. Sherlock is able to solve the murder and recover the memory stick that West stole (which was ruined by Jim Moriarty) at the end of the episode. Mycroft, however, had stated it is not the only copy of the plan.

Series 2[]

"A Scandal in Belgravia"[]

The Hounds of the Baskerville[]

The Reichanbach Fall[]

Series 3[]

"The Empty Hearse"[]

"The Sign of Three"[]

"His Last Vow"[]

The Abominable Bride[]

The Victorian England era version of Mycroft from Sherlock's imagination appears and is immensely overweight, so overweight that he is stuck in a chair and needs help getting out of it.

The real version of Mycroft appears, where he tells John to keep an eye on Sherlock, who is overdosing on drugs.

Series 4[]

The Six Thatchers[]

Mycroft was able to get his brother to stay in England because Jim Moriarty supposedly returned from the dead.

At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Vivian, one of the receptionists, betrayed Mary and her entire assassins' team. Though Mycroft calls an ambulance for Mary after she gets mortally shot, they are too late in saving her.
